How to Defeat the Spectator

Learn how to defeat the Spectator in Baldur's Gate 3. This guide covers its attacks, weaknesses, and strategies for surviving its ambush and controlling its charmed allies.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Armor Class: 14 (15 with Mage Armor)
• Hit Points: 118
• Resistances/Immunities: None
• Weaknesses: Vulnerable to damage, especially when not benefiting from Mage Armor or buffs.

Phases:

1. Ambush: The Spectator often initiates combat with a surprise round, using its eye rays and bite. It will also use "Unpetrification Ray" to charm petrified drow.
2. Combat: Once the surprise round is weathered, the Spectator is less threatening. Its main dangers are the Paralyzing Ray (which enhances its Bite attack) and the charmed drow allies.
3. Drow Allies: The Spectator will unpetrify and charm drow each turn. These drow can heal the Spectator and attack you. Freeing them from charm causes them to attack the Spectator.

Strategy:

• Location: Find the Spectator west of the Selunite Outpost. Take the shortcut through the window west of the statue in the Selunite Outpost.
• Avoiding Ambush: Be cautious when approaching the Spectator's den. Noisy actions or getting too close can trigger an ambush and a surprise round for the Spectator.
• Target Prioritization: Focus damage on the Spectator itself.
• Managing Drow: Deal enough damage to the charmed drow to break their charm and turn them against the Spectator. Elemental arrows, off-hand hand crossbow shots, or Magic Missile can be effective.
• Debuffs: While Blind can make its Bite attack harder to land and make the Spectator easier to hit, its eye rays are unaffected, making it a less reliable strategy.
• Buffs: Spells like Haste can significantly increase damage output, especially for Warlocks using Eldritch Blast or Fighters using Superiority dice.
• Level Recommendation: It is recommended to be at least level five for this fight.
