Learn how to recruit the legendary Minsc in Baldur's Gate 3! This guide details finding the Stonelord, navigating the sewers, and talking to Nine-Fingers Keene.
So, you want to bring the legendary ranger Minsc and his miniature giant space hamster, Boo, into your party? Awesome choice! Recruiting him is actually tied to Jaheira's companion quest, so if you haven't gotten her yet, you'll want to check out our guide on how to recruit her first. You'll need her with you to get Minsc.
The first big step is to progress Jaheira's quest until you've dealt with the Harper doppelgangers in the basement of Danthelon's Dancing Axe and had a chat with Geraldus. After that, Jaheira will open up about her past with Minsc and how they got separated. She'll also mention that the Harpers are a bit compromised right now, meaning you can't rely on them for info. Your next move? Dive into the underbelly of Baldur's Gate to find a Guild leader who might know something. Yep, that means a walk through the sewers!
How to Find the Sewers in the Lower City
The sewers are pretty extensive, and there are multiple ways in. Honestly, any entrance will do since you're likely to run into a few things no matter where you go. However, we suggest heading through the Elfsong Tavern. It's a good route because you can knock out a couple of other quests along the way.
Start by heading west from the Basilisk Gate waypoint into the Elfsong Tavern. Make your way to the kitchen and chat with Chef Roveer. You can warn him about a threat to his life, and he'll ask you to clear out some rats in the basement. Conveniently, that's exactly where you need to go anyway! Once you're in the basement, you'll find a swarm of rats. You can either blast the Firewine Barrels with some fire damage or just use an area-of-effect attack to deal with them quickly. After you've dealt with the rat infestation, you can head back upstairs to turn in the quest for a small reward, then head back down to the basement.
From the Basilisk Gate, head west to Elfsong Tavern.
Now, look for the leftmost northern door. Go through it and press the button on the right wall. This will open a hidden keg in the next room. Head through the rightmost northern door, and you'll find a secret entrance. Go through that and follow the stairs down. This leads you to the Knights of the Shield Hideout, which is apparently where your 'dream friend' used to hang out. Depending on choices you've made earlier, you might face a tough battle against some Githyanki here.
Once the Githyanki are dealt with, take some time to search the room. You'll find clues about your 'dream friend' and the related quest. When you're ready, head north and press the button behind the statue on the right. This opens another secret room. This is where your 'dream friend' spent a lot of time in Baldur's Gate. Interact with the various objects to learn more about them. Don't forget to grab the Sword of the Emperor before heading down the hatch in the west.
In the wine room, press the button to open the hidden keg door.
Guildhall Location
Phew, you've made it to the sewers! You're almost at the Guildhall where Nine-Fingers Keene hangs out. Head west through the door and you'll enter a room filled with toxic gas. You'll need to shoot a lever on the left wall with a ranged attack, then jump through a hole in the wall to the south. Depending on your character's Athletics skill, you might need to use spells like Enhance Jump, Fly, Gaseous Form, or even a Potion of Glorious Vaulting to make the jump. Once you're across, head southwest over the rubble and follow the stairs to the top. Welcome to the Guildhall!
From the Knights of the Shield Hideout entrance, head west and shoot the lever.
Talk to Nine-Fingers Keene - Stonelord or Guild
You'll see a 'no-entry' sign on the door, but ignore it and head into the Guildhall. This will put you behind the bar, right next to Nine-Fingers Keene’s room. Go through the doors directly in front of you to find her. You'll witness a scene between Uktar and her about the Stonelord. After the scene, talk to Nine-Fingers Keene for some information. Then, chat with Jaheira, who will suggest speaking to other Guildhall members to see if they know where Minsc, also known as the Stonelord, can be found.
Talk to Uktar
If you paid attention during the scene, you'll know Uktar isn't exactly thrilled with how things are going. Head downstairs from Keene’s office to find him. Tell him that the sooner you deal with the Stonelord, the sooner the Guild can get back to its business. He'll reveal that the ambush is planned for beneath the Counting House. He'll also offer you keys to the vaults, which you can use yourself. It's up to you whether you give them to him or not – we didn't!
Before you head off to the Counting House, make sure to go west of the Guildhall to grab the City Sewers waypoint. You'll definitely want it for later.
Uktar can be found at the bottom of the stairs near Keene’s office.

Head to the Counting House
The Counting House is located in the southwest part of the Lower City. The closest waypoints are either Heapside Strand or Lower City Wall. If you use Heapside Strand, head west then south. If you use Lower City Wall, head south until you reach Old Garlow's Place, then go west and south. Once you enter the Counting House, speak to Head Clerk Meadhoney, who's to the right of the fence gate. After Jaheira learns that the Stonelord is heading down to the vault below, you'll need to
