Learn how to survive the Shadow Curse in Baldur's Gate 3 Act 2. Discover methods like the Blessing of Selune and the Pixie's Blessing to navigate the darkness and its dangers.

The Shadow Curse in Baldur's Gate 3 Act 2 inflicts necrotic damage and empowers enemies. Prolonged exposure can be fatal, reducing your survival time to mere rounds. Enemies in the shadows gain concealment, making them harder to hit and enabling hit-and-run tactics. When exposed, the game shifts to turn-based mode, allowing you to seek sanctuary or use light sources to reverse the situation.

Mundane light sources like braziers, torches, and the Light spell can initially ward off the curse. Enchanted equipment, such as The Blood of Lathander, also provides protection. For more reliable and less burdensome solutions, seek the Blessing of Selune, Moonlanterns, or the Pixie's Blessing.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Obtain the Blessing of Selune: Make your way to the Last Light Inn. Speak with Isobel, a priestess who maintains the inn's protection from the Shadow Curse. After a conversation, you will receive the Blessing of Selune. This boon protects you from less concentrated areas of the Shadow Curse. Be aware that immediately after speaking with Isobel, you will be attacked by Flaming Fist Marcus and his minions. The outcome of this fight impacts the Last Light Inn, but you will retain the buff regardless.
  2. 2
Obtain the Pixie's Blessing: To protect yourself from denser darkness, you can acquire a Moonlantern or another boon. If you entered the Shadowlands via the Underdark, proceed southwest to the Last Light Inn. After speaking with Jaheira and Isobel to get the Blessing of Selune, leave via the main (southeastern) bridge. You will be stopped by Harper Branthos, who will inform you of an ambush on an Absolutist convoy. Agree to join them and follow them south. Trigger the ambush at a ruined house. Alternatively, if you entered via the Mountain Pass, you can defect from the Absolutist convoy when the Harpers attack.
  3. 3
Defeat Kar'niss and Obtain the Moonlantern: In either scenario, you will need to defeat the drider named Kar'niss and his allies to claim his Moonlantern. Equipping this Moonlantern grants the Moonshield buff, protecting you from the worst of the Shadow Curse and allowing travel anywhere in Act 2.
  4. 4
Free the Fairy for Pixie's Blessing: When you acquire Kar'niss's Moonlantern, you have the option to free the fairy trapped within. If freed, the sprite will grant you the Pixie's Blessing buff, which functions similarly to the Blessing of Selune but can protect you from the most concentrated darkness.
Tips
  • Having multiple characters with the Light spell can be helpful for immediate protection.
  • The Blessing of Selune protects against general darkness but not denser areas near Moonrise Tower.
  • Equipping a Moonlantern is effective but may occupy a weapon slot, which can be a handicap for some characters.
  • Freeing the fairy from the Moonlantern provides the Pixie's Blessing, a robust protection against concentrated darkness.
