Learn how to trade and battle with Pokémon X/Y, use Pokémon Bank, and transfer Pokémon from older generations (Gen V, IV, III) to Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
This guide details how to connect and transfer Pokémon between Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and other games in the series, covering both direct and indirect compatibility.
Direct Compatibility
Pokémon X/Y
You can directly trade and battle with players of Pokémon X/Y using the Player Search System (PSS). However, you must adhere to Kalos region rules, meaning no trading or battling with new Mega or Primal Pokémon, or any new moves or items introduced in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
Pokémon Bank
After updating Pokémon Bank to version 1.2 with the online patch, you can trade any Pokémon from Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire to and from Pokémon Bank. Note that items will not be kept in Pokémon Bank and will be moved to your Bag.
Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Special Demo Version
You can send items or the special Mega Pokémon (Glalie, or Steelix in Japan) to the full game of Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire once per day. These can all be obtained in the full game, but offer an early-game advantage.
Indirect Compatibility
Pokémon Black/White/Black 2/White 2 (Gen V)
To transfer Pokémon from these Generation V games to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, you will need the Poké Transporter app, which is included with Pokémon Bank. After transferring to Pokémon Bank, you can then trade them to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/HeartGold/SoulSilver (Gen IV)
This process requires two DS or 3DS systems and a Generation V game. First, use the PokéTransfer system in the Generation V game (available after completing the game) to trade Pokémon from a Gen IV game to Gen V. The Spiky-Eared Pichu cannot be transferred.
Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen (Gen III)
You will need a DS and a Generation IV game. In the Generation IV game, visit the Pal Park (accessible after obtaining the National Pokédex) to trade Pokémon from Gen III to Gen IV. This is simpler in HeartGold/SoulSilver, as completing the Sinnoh Pokédex is required for other Gen IV games.
