Take down your rival Brendan or May in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire! Get the best strategies and type matchups to defeat their powerful team, including Mega Evolutions.

Alright, you've made it to the end of the line – the final challenge before becoming the Champion! This is your rival, Brendan or May, and they've got a seriously tough team ready for you. Don't sweat it though, we'll get you through this.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Vs. Swellow (Lv. 48, Normal/Flying): This is a pretty standard opener. It'll likely have U-turn and Steel Wing, so avoid Rock-types against Steel Wing. Honestly, your Pikachu or any Electric-type will make short work of it. Rock-types are also a good bet. If you've got Latias or Latios, they'll nuke it easily.
  2. 2
Vs. Raichu (Lv. 48, Electric): Raichu's main threat is paralysis and setting up Light Screen. It's frail, so a strong STAB move from your starter, Latias/Latios, or any Pokémon you brought to the Elite Four will take it down quickly. Don't let the status effects wear you down.
  3. 3
Vs. Breloom (Lv. 48, Grass/Fighting): Breloom is mostly offensive. Exploit its weaknesses: Flying (4x!), Psychic, Fairy, and Fire. A single super-effective hit should do it.
  4. 4
Vs. Magcargo (Lv. 48, Fire/Rock): This is where Surf shines! If you don't have it, your starter (Swampert or Blaziken) can handle it. Swampert can use Surf or Ground moves, and Blaziken can use Fighting or Rock moves.
  5. 5
Vs. Wailord (Lv. 48, Water): Wailord relies on its bulk. If you have Pikachu, give it a Light Ball and use Grass Knot (it's super heavy!) or Thunderbolt. Other Electric or Grass Pokémon work well. Swampert can resist Water and hit back with Ground moves.
  6. 6
Vs. Mega Sceptile (Lv. 50, Grass/Dragon): This is a tough one. Mega Sceptile gains Lightning Rod (so avoid Electric moves!) and boosted stats. It has a big double weakness to Ice, and also weak to Flying, Bug, Poison, Dragon, and Fairy. Bring your best Ice-type attacker or something with those other super-effective moves.
  7. 7
Vs. Mega Swampert (Lv. 50, Water/Ground): Mega Swampert gains Swift Swim, which might be annoying if you're running Rain, but it's still relatively slow. Your best bet is Grass-type moves. If not, Latias/Latios can still handle it well since it resists most of their moveset.
  8. 8
Vs. Mega Blaziken (Lv. 50, Fire/Fighting): This is the most dangerous of the Megas due to its Speed Boost ability. It *will* outspeed you quickly. Legendary Pokémon like Ho-Oh, Lugia, Latios, Latias, Groudon, Kyogre, or Suicune have a massive advantage here with Psychic, Flying, Water, or Ground moves. Generic Psychic Pokémon like Gardevoir or Alakazam are also great. Mega Sceptile can also work since it's no longer weak to Fire.
Tips
  • Don't forget to use your starter Pokémon! They're often strong against multiple members of your rival's team, especially when Mega Evolved.
  • Legendary Pokémon you've caught are invaluable here due to their high stats and type coverage.
  • If you're struggling, revisit the Elite Four and level up a bit more. Sometimes a few extra levels make all the difference.
  • Pay close attention to your rival's Mega Evolution – it often changes their typing and abilities, requiring a shift in strategy.
