    Upon arriving in Petalburg City, you'll find the Gym is currently closed.

    Head west to the Gym. You'll encounter Wally, who is trying to catch his first Pokémon. With your help, he successfully catches a Ralts.

    After this, Wally's parents will thank you and give you the HM01 Cut.

    You can now explore the rest of Petalburg City. To the west of the Pokémon Center is the Petalburg Gym, but it remains closed.

    Talk to the man standing outside the Gym. He will tell you that the Gym Leader, Norman, is your father and that he is currently inside the Gym.

    Enter the Gym. You will have to battle through several trainers before reaching Norman.

    After defeating Norman, you will receive the Balance Badge, which allows the use of HM03 Surf outside of battle. You will also receive TM31 Brick Break.

  • Norman's Slaking has a devastating attack, but its ability, Truant, means it can only attack every other turn. Use this to your advantage.
