Sneaking and the DexNav

In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the DexNav is a crucial tool for finding and catching rare Pokémon. This guide explains how to use its features, including Sneaking and Search Mode, to your advantage.

Hidden Pokémon appear as shadowy figures in tall grass, caves, or water. They are similar to rare Pokémon in previous games but can be identified by their appearance and cry before encountering them. Moving too quickly can scare them off, and they may move around in caves and water.

The DexNav, accessible from the bottom screen after obtaining the Pokédex, helps with catching Pokémon. It functions in two ways:

• If a Hidden Pokémon appears, the DexNav automatically searches for it and displays information.
• You can tap a Pokémon's icon on the DexNav screen and press “Search” to potentially make a Hidden version of that Pokémon appear nearby.

During Search mode, the DexNav provides information based on your Search Level, which increases with each encounter with a specific Pokémon. This information includes:

• Search Level: The number of times you've encountered the Pokémon.
• Level: The Pokémon's Level (an exclamation mark indicates a higher level than average).
• First Move: The Pokémon's first move (an exclamation mark signifies an Egg Move).
• Type: The Pokémon's Type(s).
• Potential: A measure of the Pokémon's stats, with each star indicating a perfect IV.
• Held Item: An item held by the Pokémon (if present).
• Ability: The Pokémon's Ability (an exclamation mark signifies a rare Hidden Ability).

DexNav Chaining allows you to chain Hidden Pokémon encounters, similar to the PokéRadar. This increases the chance of beneficial features and Shiny Pokémon. To chain:

1. Encounter a Pokémon to register it in the DexNav.
2. Tap its icon and “Search” for it.
3. If a Hidden Pokémon appears, sneak up on it and initiate a battle. Catch or KO the Pokémon without running or scaring it.
4. Immediately use the DexNav to search again. Repeat this cycle.

As your chain increases, Hidden Pokémon may run away earlier or move faster in caves/water, requiring quicker reactions.
