Alright, so you've heard about the Endless Plains in Pathfinder: Kingmaker? It's located just southeast of Oleg’s Trading Post, and pretty close to Fangberry Cave too. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, don't let the name fool you – this place is a hunting ground for a Manticore, and it's definitely not for brand-new adventurers. The game even warns you about it!

If you head east into the plains, a Manticore will swoop down. These things are tough, especially for low-level parties or if you're new to the game. My advice? If you're not at least 4th level with a full party, don't push your luck. Go back later once you're stronger; there's plenty else to do in the Stolen Lands.

The Manticore Fight:

When you're ready, here's what you need to know. The Manticore has an Armor Class (AC) of 18, which isn't too bad. It's got about 60 HP, so it can take a few hits. The real danger is its offense – it hits hard and often. By 4th level, with buffs, our party's AC was over 30, making it manageable. Your animal companions, if buffed, will also do great.

Preparation is Key:

• Buff Up: Before you even think about engaging, cast spells like Mage Armor, Barkskin, Shield, Shield of Faith, Blur, and Mirror Image. Seriously, stack those defensive buffs!
• Draw Aggro: Have your highest AC character lead the charge to draw the Manticore's attention.
• Flank and Conquer: Once it's focused on your tank, try to flank the Manticore. This will help you take it down much faster.

It's less about a complex strategy and more about having the right stats and buffs to survive its initial onslaught. It's basically a stat check to make sure you're not too under-leveled.

Looting the Plains:

Once you've dealt with the Manticore, you'll find some unfortunate souls scattered around. Check these corpses for some sweet loot:

• Southeastern Corner (near where the Manticore landed): You'll find a Belt of Incredible Dexterity +2.
• North of the first corpse: Hidden away is a Scroll of Touch of Gracelessness.
• Western Edge (near where you entered): This one has a Scimitar +1 and a Wand of Grease, plus some other less exciting bits.

Not a bad reward for facing down a deadly beast early on!

Pro Tip: If you're doing The Fangberry Cave Expedition, remember this area is nearby but might be too tough for you right now. Just skip it and come back later. The next step in that questline is Two-Rivers Field.
