Discover Nettle's Crossing in Pathfinder: Kingmaker. Learn how to reach it, find hidden loot with high Perception, and deal with the Riverbed Nightmare quest.
Alright, so you've probably started having some weird dreams by now, right? That's your cue to head to Nettle's Crossing. It's early in Chapter 1, and while you have a few ways to deal with these dreams, they all eventually point you towards the Shrike River. The kicker is, when these dreams hit, you won't recover spells or get rid of fatigue. So, it's best to tackle the source of the problem ASAP, even before the dream actually shows up. Completing this little errand will kick off the quest called Riverbed Nightmare.
To get there, just travel southeast from Two-Rivers Crossing. If you'd rather start from the node south of Fangberry Cave, that works too. Once you reach Shrike River, follow it southwest until you arrive at Nettle's Crossing. There's a map linked if you want to see the route visually.
Now, while you're in the area, keep an eye out. If you head northeast from the empty node along Shrike River, you'll find the Old Outpost. It's a resource node, and while you can't do much with it right now, it might be worth revisiting later.
Once you're in Nettle's Crossing itself, follow the road southeast until you hit a fork with a sign. Keep going southeast, and you'll find a collapsed bridge. That's a dead end for that path. Instead, hug the cliffs to your west. If your Perception skill is 6 or higher, you'll spot a pile of rocks. Give 'em a poke – there's an Ancient Rostlandic Coin hidden there!
Since the southeast path is blocked by that collapsed rope bridge, you'll want to take the trail heading northeast. This leads you to a burned-down house just north of the road. If your Perception skill is 20, you can find a hidden stash inside. It's got a scroll, some potions, and other loot you can sell.
Leave the ruined house and head southeast towards the shore. You'll run into a drowned corpse that drags itself out of the water. Talk to it and ask about its death. You'll get a vision, similar to those dreams you've been having. Turns out, the Stag Lord killed this poor soul, and it wants revenge. Agree to avenge it – it's the only way to make the dreams stop. If you agree, it'll even offer you the spear it's carrying if you succeed. Just attacking it won't stop the visions permanently, so even if you're playing an evil character, you'll have to deal with its request.
With that sorted, you're free to leave the area. If your party is feeling worn out, don't hesitate to rest. Generally, though, you should let your spell slots be your guide for when to rest. A little fatigue won't kill you, and you've got healing magic for it anyway! But seriously, if you need to recover, heading back to Oleg's Trading Post is always an option. If you're feeling up to it and don't mind a bit of fatigue, you can keep exploring. The next area you might want to check out is the Riverine Rise.
