Complete The River's Justice in pathfinder kingmaker. Navigate pirate camps, defeat enemies, and handle the Vascari Conspiracy with specific skill checks.
- 1Travel to the riverbend near Littletown, marked as the “Pitax River Bend” area. From Rushlight Fields, travel Southwest, Southwest, South to the Pitax landmark, then West, West, West.
- 2Upon arrival, an Illustrated Book Episode will cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) your approach to the pirate camp(s). Choose one of the following skill checks:
- Athletics 32: Swim to the camp and take cover behind boats.
- 3Mobility 32: Pick your way through the swamp.
- 4Lore (Nature) 32: Circle around from the woods.
- 5Regardless of the first choice, you will proceed to a second set of checks:
- Trickery 32: Lure and subdue sentries near the boats.
- 6Stealth 32: Sneak closer for a surprise attack.
- 7Succeeding at the second set of checks places you advantageously on the southern end of the area, potentially eliminating at least one opponent. Failing or rushing the pirates results in starting on the less advantageous eastern end. If you chose Athletics 32 previously, a successful second check can trigger a special option to set fire to boats, sowing chaos before the attack.
Battle the River Pirates:
You will face eight Pirate Brawlers, two Pirate Alchemists, two Pirate Bards, and a Pirate Cleric. The Bards use Slow and Hideous Laughter, the Cleric summons and casts Hold Person, and the Alchemists use Reduce Person before throwing bombs. Brawlers are primarily melee combatants.
- If starting from the east due to poor Illustrated Book Episode performance, be cautious of Brawlers blocking access to casters. Keep your casters safe and use buffs like Haste. Consider a secondary caster for buffs and debuffs like Chains of Light, Hold Person, Confusion, Web, or Phantasmal Web.
- In the best-case scenario (starting from the south), rush the center of the camp to attack a Bard. Watch out for Brawlers, especially one from the northwest that could flank your casters. Focus on reaching the casters while keeping your own casters free from melee.
- The battle ends when enough foes are slain.
The Vascari Conspiracy:
After the battle, Renshala Vascari will appear. A successful [Knowledge (World)] check identifies her, her house, and the true identity of the pirates, revealing Irovetti's scheme to frame you.
You will have several dialogue checks to mitigate the situation:
- [Diplomacy 32]: Tell the truth without mentioning your source.
- [Diplomacy 38]: Mention the playwright who passed on the news.
- [Diplomacy 25]: Claim you were acting in good faith.
- [Bluff 38] (Chaotic Neutral): Lie and say Irovetti sent you.
Failing diplomacy or deceit checks can lead to attacking the merchants.
- Lying about being an Irovetti agent lures Renshala closer for a disadvantageous melee, or allows you to demur for experience.
- Choosing other options generally provides more useful dialogue. Experience points are awarded based on difficulty of checks, but there's no significant benefit to specific dialogue choices beyond that.
- Implicating Eimar Deschamps requires an additional [Diplomacy 25] check to be heard, followed by a [Diplomacy 38] check to convince her of a conspiracy involving the playwright.
- If you fail diplomacy or deceit checks, you can attack the merchants to finish the encounter.
