Renowned Explorer

Head to the A Ford Across the Skunk River area southwest of your capital. If you haven't visited before, familiarize yourself with its general encounters first. This quest's content only becomes available after the Troll Invasion event has triggered. To reach this area from Tuskdale, travel northwest, then southwest to the landmark A Ford Across the Skunk River.

Upon arrival, follow the road northwest until you find a gnome. Approach him, and he will ask for your help. He is with other gnomes, led by Jubilost, fighting kobolds in the river. Defeat the Kobold Sentinels and Kobold Archers.

After defeating the kobolds in the river, more will appear on the northern bank, and their leader, King Tartuk, will appear on cliffs across the river. Defeat these kobolds, including the slightly stronger Kobold Sniper. Tartuk will then retreat.

Interact with Jubilost's cart, which is now threatened by the river, to start an Illustrated Book Episode. You must attempt to save the cart. The first option is: [Choose a character] One of us tried to jump onto the cart to untie the ponies still standing in the water. This requires passing a Mobility 15 check and a Lore (Nature) 10 check. Failing the Mobility check raises the Lore (Nature) DC to twenty. If you do not attempt this, you will fail to retrieve the cart.

If you succeed at the previous checks, you will have three options to save the cart: Lore (Nature) 19, Athletics 20, or Charisma 15. If you previously chose We tied a rope to the cart, you will also get a Strength 14 option. Choose the option your party is most likely to succeed at.

After saving the cart, speak with Jubilost. Ask him questions about his fame, why he is so far from civilization, and what dwarven outpost he is searching for. If you saved his wagon, he will agree to travel with you. If not, you will need to find the ruins yourself and inform him later.

To complete the quest, take Jubilost with you to the Dwarven Ruins, located in the Ruined Watchtower area. Once at the Dwarven Ruins, walk forward, and Jubilost will reward you and offer alignment-influencing dialogue choices.
