Death to Chief Sootscale

Alright, so you've stumbled into the Old Sycamore area and found yourself smack-dab in the middle of a turf war between some Kobolds and Mites. It looks like the Kobolds, led by Chief Sootscale to the east, are pretty ticked off at the Mites, led by Seneschal Vaggik to the west. Apparently, it's all about some relic that the Kobolds think the Mites swiped, or maybe the Kobolds misplaced it and then blamed the Mites. Either way, the Kobolds, egged on by a shaman named Tartuk, went and raided the Mites' place for it.

Now, you've got a few ways to handle this. If you're feeling diplomatic and have a Neutral alignment (that's Neutral Good, Neutral Evil, Lawful Neutral, Chaotic Neutral, or True Neutral), you can try a [Neutral] dialogue option. If you play your cards right and don't just go attacking everyone, both sides might just let you pass without getting involved in their squabble. They'll still be at each other's throats, but you won't be part of the bloodshed.

If you decide to throw your lot in with the Mites, they'll be cool with you exploring their territory, both above and below ground. You can head straight for their leader, Warrior Queen Bdaah, in her underground lair. Just watch out for a few Giant Centipedes on the way. Once you find her, chat her up and pick the dialogue options “How may I help in your war?” followed by “All right. I will try to reach the Chief”. This will officially kick off the quest Death to Chief Sootscale!. Don't worry, you can start this quest even if you've already spoken to Chief Sootscale and begun the quest Death to Queen Bdaah!.

When it's time to face Chief Sootscale himself, head into his lair. Be ready, because he's not alone and reinforcements might show up behind you during the fight. It's a good idea to keep an eye on your surroundings so you don't get swarmed.

Defeating Chief Sootscale, or even just driving him off, will wrap up the quest. If you manage to take him down, you can loot his body for some nice gear: a Masterwork Light Mace and a Belt of Incredible Dexterity +2.
