Learn how to handle 'The Hunter's Revenge' quest in Pathfinder: Kingmaker. Discover dialogue options, combat strategies against the Ferocious Wyvern, and find the Token of the Dryad.
Alright, so you've been a bit of a troublemaker in Chapter 2, specifically if you went after those Embeth Travelers during 'An Amusement for the Nobles' or maybe you nabbed the competition prize using some less-than-honorable dialogue options. Well, guess what? Your past actions are catching up to you! Sometime after finishing that quest, you'll be stopped by a group of armed folks who'll let you know that Jamel Visser sends his regards. They figured out you weren't exactly gentle with their wyvern trophy.
- 1When you're stopped, they'll explain that they're not here to fight you directly. Instead, they're setting you a trial: face a Ferocious Wyvern, the very beast you might have wronged them over. If you can beat it, you'll earn your freedom.
- 2Option 1: Talk your way out. If you want to avoid a fight and potentially snag a nice XP bonus, you can try diplomacy. The dialogue options here depend on your past choices.
- 3If you previously killed the Embeth Travelers or used an Evil/Chaotic dialogue option to take the prize, you'll have a few choices. You can try to scare them off with the line _“You and your band had best leave while you still can.”_ but this will immediately provoke them into summoning the wyvern.
- 4To actually try and talk your way out, pick _“Who are you and what do you want from me?”_ From here, you'll get more options:
- A [Chaotic Neutral] or [Chaotic Evil] response will still lead to fighting the wyvern.
- 5There are skill checks: a [Bluff 35] check, which you just need to succeed at, or a [Diplomacy 35] check. The Diplomacy check requires you to pay 3,000 GP in restitution if you succeed.
- 6You can also just accept the punishment and fight the wyvern anyway. Passing these checks, especially the skill ones, can net you a hefty 3,840 XP.
- 7If you only strong-armed the prize without killing the hunters, you'll have an easier optional [Diplomacy 20] check. Success here means you'll still have to either pay 1,000 GP or fight the Ferocious Wyvern.
- 8Option 2: Fight the Ferocious Wyvern. If your attempts at diplomacy fail, or you just want to get straight to the point, you'll have to fight this beast. It's not the toughest enemy, but it's fast and its attacks are venomous. Buffs like Haste and Stoneskin will make this fight much easier.
- 9After resolving the encounter (either through talking or fighting), keep heading west until the path forks. Take the northern path and look for a rock hidden by bushes. Inside, you'll find a Token of the Dryad.
- Don't underestimate the wyvern's venom; make sure your party has ways to deal with poison.
- If you're struggling with the skill checks, consider reloading a save or using scrolls/spells that boost your relevant skills temporarily.
- The XP reward for passing the dialogue checks is quite significant, so it's often worth trying to succeed at them if possible.
