Guide to the Temple of the Elk in Pathfinder: Kingmaker. Learn how to defeat the Temple Guardians, including Primal Giant Frogs, Primal Ferocious Wolves, and the Bear-Like Treant, and talk to Tristian.
Walkthrough
- 1Travel to the Temple of the Elk. From Thorn Ford, head West, Northwest, then Southwest. From the Technic League Encampment, head Northeast, then North, West, Southwest, and Northwest. Rest at a camp if fatigued.
- 2The Temple of the Elk is located south of the Abandoned Hut. Be aware that a strong foe resides here, potentially too difficult for a 2nd-level party. If the area is too difficult, consider exploring random encounters or leveling up in the Old Sycamore area.
- 3Head west from your arrival point to encounter the Guardian of the Bloom, who offers a warning.
- 4Continue west and succeed on a Perception check (DC 15) to find a Token of the Dryad in foliage.
- 5Turn northwest into ruins to fight three Primal Giant Frogs. If you struggle, consider leveling up.
- 6Investigate a pool and a statue in the center of the ruins.
- 7Turn southwest to face three Primal Ferocious Wolves outside the ruins. They perform trip attacks. Position your party outside the ruins to bottleneck them.
- 8After defeating the wolves, return to the center of the ruins and head northwest.
- 9Face a Primal Dire Boar in the area outside the ruins. Surround it with your party to defeat it.
- 10Continue northwest and loot foliage to find another Token of the Dryad.
- 11Return to the center of the ruins, heal, and head northeast towards stairs.
- 12At the top of the stairs, you will find a Bear-Like Treant fighting Tristian. After Tristian is defeated, the Treant will attack you. This is a difficult fight due to the Treant's high damage, HP, AC, Damage Reduction, and Stunning Blow attacks. A level three party with buffs and flanking is recommended. Spells like Ray of Enfeeblement or Color Spray can help.
- 13After vanquishing the Mutated Bear (Bear-Like Treant), talk to Tristian. He will identify himself as a priest of Sarenrae and be evasive about the fight. He confirms that defeating the guardian beasts dispels the fog, but it won't dissipate immediately.
Tips
- The Temple of the Elk is a benchmark battle; having stronger characters is crucial. If you're struggling, it's better to level up.
- When fighting the Primal Ferocious Wolves, bottleneck them outside the ruins for a significant advantage.
- For the Bear-Like Treant fight, ensure your party is spell-buffed before engaging. Consider using flanking, spell-buffs (Mage Armor, Shield, Shield of Faith, Blur, Mirror Image, Bless), and potentially bard songs. Ray of Enfeeblement and Color Spray can also be effective.
- A level two party with custom-built characters and a Sorcerer spamming Color Spray had success, while pre-generated companions struggled. Party composition significantly impacts difficulty.
- 2 Tokens of the Dryad
- Experience from defeating enemies and completing objectives.
