Follow our guide to complete The Poor Fellow-Soldier quest in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Learn how to find Grand Maegester Aelfred and receive Thor's Cape.
Alright, so you've just wrapped up 'The Letter' quest, and now it's time for 'The Poor Fellow-Soldier.' This one kicks off right away, sending you to a small village called Aethelnay. It's way out in the northwest corner of Hamtunscire, so if you're coming from Ravensthorpe, it's a good trek southwest.
When you get to Aethelnay, Eivor will ask around about the person they're looking for. Since nobody really knows anything, the plan is to just chill and wait to see what happens. Soon enough, you'll hear King Aelfred himself – turns out he's been slumming it in the village, doing daily tasks for a bit.
He'll eventually suggest going for a walk, so just tag along. During this stroll, Aelfred spills the beans: he's the Grand Maegester, The Father, and he's been working to dismantle the Order of the Ancients from the inside. The war with the Danes put a damper on things, but with your help, the Order is toast. As a thank you, he'll hand over a key to his study, which you can find over at The Old Minster in Wincestre.
Once that chat is done, the quest officially wraps up. But here's a little quirk: you won't be able to fast travel away immediately. The game plays the end credit music, and you basically have to just run around for a bit until it lets you go. Use this time if you want to visit the spot where Ubba died – his battlefield is southeast of Aethelnay. Also, if you've taken down every other member of the Order of the Ancients by now, you'll snag the 'Disorder of the Ancients' trophy.
When you're finally free to move, head back to Ravensthorpe and have a word with Hytham. He'll give you your reward: Thor's Cape.
