Learn how to effectively play as Cait Sith in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Discover his unique abilities, moogle summons, and strategies for maximizing his potential.

Cait Sith joins your party at the start of Chapter 9, but you first encounter him upon entering the Golden Saucer in Chapter 8. Cait Sith is a cat who rides a giant moogle. While he is quick on his feet alone, he is not very powerful without his moogle companion. Your primary goal is to accumulate one ATB charge and then use the 'Let’s Ride' skill to summon the moogle. Until then, you can use his basic attack to strike enemies or hold it for a spinning AoE attack. His heavy attack, 'Kitty Wallop,' deals a bit more damage, causing Cait Sith to leap into the air and slam down, which can help target flying enemies or knock down grounded ones.

Combat changes significantly once you ride the moogle. Your standard attack now fires energy projectiles from afar. Your strong attack allows you to use 'Dropkick,' which builds the Moogle Gauge. Alternatively, holding Square makes the moogle dash at opponents or attack on its own. Once the Moogle Gauge is full, you gain access to new abilities that replace your heavy attack. The table below details these abilities:

AbilityMoogle LevelUse
Fight!2Buffs the party with Bravery and Faith.
Defense!2Buffs the party with Protect and Shell.
Go Wild!2Buffs the party with Berserk.
Silence Slam3Inflicts silence on enemies.
Stop Strike3Inflicts slow or stop on enemies.
Toxic Tackle3Inflicts poison on enemies.
Petrify Piledrive3Inflicts petrify on enemies.

The attacks that appear at each Moogle Level are random, and using an ability reduces the Moogle Gauge back to level one. Cait Sith functions as a party booster, but his random abilities make him a wildcard. The Luck Up Materia appears to assist with his 'Roll O’ Dice' and 'Fortune Telling' skills. While he may not always fit your party composition, you will be forced to use him in certain game sections, such as during Chapter 11.

Luck Up Materia

It is highly recommended to upgrade the Luck Up Materia to level five if you plan to play as Cait Sith. This provides a 50% luck increase, improving the chance of his hits being powerful. The Luck Up Materia can be acquired from a ghost on the second floor of the Ghost Square’s Hotel within the Golden Saucer in Chapter 12. Keep in mind that even with high luck, there's still a chance your luck-based abilities and limit break may fail. Consider Cait Sith primarily a buffer with the occasional high damage capability.

Best Abilities for Cait Sith

Cait Sith possesses several abilities, but many rely heavily on luck, introducing an RNG element. Furthermore, some moves are only usable while riding the moogle. The table below lists all of Cait Sith’s abilities:

AbilityDescription
Let’s RideSummon Cait Sith’s moogle companion.
Roll O’ The DiceRoll a die. The resulting effect varies depending on the number rolled.
Fortune TellingDeal damage great or small—or perhaps just get your fortune told.
Lady LuckCall upon the goddess of fortune to temporarily increase allies’ critical hit rate.
Moogle KaboomTurn your moogle into a ticking time bomb that explodes when it leaves combat.
Moogle MineUse the moogle to scatter landmines that explode upon enemy contact. Moderately increases stagger.
Moogle MagicUse an equipped summon’s ability. Usable only while riding the moogle during battles where summons are available. Cooldown increases with each use.
Moogle KnuckleUse the moogle to deliver a fistful of pain. Increased stagger damage bonus.

Moogle Magic

Moogle Magic is arguably one of the most useful abilities in the game. To activate it, equip Cait Sith with the Crystal Megaphone, found in Chapter 10 inside the Observatory Treasury of Cosmo. This ability is extremely powerful as it allows you to summon for just one ATB charge. Using this move with the ATB Boost Materia can help unleash a powerful summon seconds into battle. The First Strike Materia is also beneficial, providing a small ATB boost at the start of the battle. Equip your desired summon to Cait Sith and activate the ability early in battle or when an enemy is close to staggering for optimal results. Note that this ability is only available in battles where you can normally call a Summon.

Moogle Knuckle

Moogle Knuckle is Cait Sith’s second-best move. This attack is activated by equipping Cait Sith with the Golden Megaphone, found in Chapter 11 inside Shinra Manor. This attack delivers a powerful hit and is especially effective against staggered enemies. The main drawback is that Cait Sith’s moves are largely dependent on the megaphone he is currently holding; you cannot use Moogle Magic and Moogle Knuckle simultaneously. Plan your strategy accordingly for upcoming battles.

Lady Luck - Support Build

Lady Luck is an excellent ability if you aim to build Cait Sith as a pure support character. This ability increases the party’s critical hit rate and is obtained by equipping Cait Sith with the Gjall
