Find all Gears and Gambits Protorelic locations in final fantasy vii rebirth's Cosmo Canyon. Learn strategies for each minigame stage.
Gears and Gambits 1 Location
The first Gears and Gambits minigame is located near the central formation on the map, on its northern side. Head to this area and look for ruins embedded in the rocky cliffside. Ascend the stairs and find some NPCs. Approaching them will trigger scenes, after which you can play the minigame. This involves programming robots with gambits and actions to reach the center and defeat an enemy leader. For the normal version, changing the default gambits/actions is recommended. The minigame uses a tri-system for strengths and weaknesses based on elements (fire, ice, lightning), which also determines the ATB cost to summon robots. For the first stage, using the default loadout is sufficient. You can assign Gambits and Actions before starting. The enemy leader is in the center, with three lanes for deploying robots. The enemy will also deploy units to attack your crystals on the outer edges, which share a single life bar displayed in the bottom right. Pressing the Square button allows you to view both your robots' AI and the enemy's AI. The objective is to deploy your robots, exploiting elemental weaknesses, to reach the central figure. Portal Skills, assigned to the Triangle button, are single-use emergency abilities. The first 90 seconds are straightforward, focusing on elemental weaknesses. Eventually, a larger Flan will spawn, ignoring your units to attack your crystal directly; prioritize defeating it quickly. Keep an eye on the enemy leader's health bar for a phase change indicated by a dot at the halfway point, which may alter its elemental affinity or trigger buffs/attacks. Check the leader's gambits to avoid its attacks. It may take a few tries to master this stage.
Gears and Gambits 2 Location
The second location is in the northern end of the Cosmo Canyon Region. Navigate north and find a climbable hill leading to two Gliding Ranges. Use Gliding Range No. 24 - 67m, which will transport you south to the ruins containing the second Gears and Gambits minigame. In this stage, you can customize your robots by assigning a Gambit and an Action. Gambits have priority based on their position; higher gambits are executed first. A basic loadout can be enhanced with gambits like "Self HP < 50% = Cure Shot/Regen Shot" or "Self = Bravery Shot". The default actions are sufficient for this stage. When playing the stage, avoid having four or more robots in a single lane, as this will cause the King Flan to cast Bravery on itself. If targeted by 5 foes, it uses Mighty Splat. At 50% health, it summons reinforcements and changes phases. Use a Portal Skill to manage reinforcements during this hectic phase. The King Flan can also cast Haste twice at this point. Other abilities are standard attacks.
Gears and Gambits 3 Location
The third location is on the central formation jutting into the main area. To reach it, go to Activation Intel 4, then head south. Continue past a large updraft with ramps and climb a hill in the southeastern corner. Use Gliding Range No. 6, then follow the path to a split. Ignore the paths ahead and go up the stairs to a third Gliding Range (No. 13). Continue using the gliding ranges until you see multiple paths. Ignore the next gliding range and proceed upwards past enemies to find Gliding Range No. 14, which leads across the canyon to Activation Intel 6. From there, travel north to a trail on the east, which leads to a climbable wall. Ascend the wall to reach the third Gears and Gambit location.
