How to Reach Southern Corel

Learn how to fully unlock Southern Corel in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Discover the required chapters, vehicles, and progression needed to access this region.

The Corel region in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is divided into three parts: Northern Corel, Mt. Corel, and Southern Corel. While some enemies overlap, each area has unique foes. To assess all enemies in the region, you'll need to explore all three parts, which the main questline eventually guides you to. However, access to these areas is gated by main quest progression across two chapters.

You'll first reach Costa del Sol in Chapter 6, but meaningful exploration of Corel begins in Chapter 7. After leaving Costa del Sol, you can explore Northern Corel. Traveling south from there leads to a desert landscape around the Gold Saucer, but your path to Southern Corel is blocked by branches in the water. This prevents full exploration of the Corel region for a significant time, despite most World Intel being located in Southern Corel. You cannot swim across these debris-filled waters.

Instead of swimming, you must complete Chapter 8 to obtain the Buggy. This vehicle can cross these bodies of water, allowing full exploration of the Corel region and access to Gongaga to the south. During your exploration of Mt. Corel, you will also acquire a Grappling Hook, which helps in reaching some World Events in the Corel region.

To reach Southern Corel, you must first traverse Mt. Corel. Head to the western edge of Northern Corel and prepare for two substantial combat segments with fixed party compositions, along with smaller encounters. This journey concludes Chapter 7 and leads you to North Corel on the other side of the mountains. From North Corel, you can technically exit via a gate towards Southern Corel. However, you will encounter more watery blockades, and the accessible part of Southern Corel at this point is minimal, offering no new World Events.

Fully unlocking Southern Corel requires completing Chapter 8, which rewards you with the Buggy. This vehicle is essential for crossing the branch-filled waters that block access to Southern Corel and also allows travel south to the Gongaga region.
