Strategy
So, here's the deal with fighting this guy. After you've targeted the Abyss Worm about five times, it's going to use a move called Swallow. This will temporarily remove one of your characters from the battle, which can be a real pain. Keep track of how many times you've targeted it!
After targeting it two more times while it has a character swallowed, it'll Regurgitate that character. This move deals a hefty 10,000 damage. Now, here's a pro-tip: if your characters have the Protect buff active, you can cut that Regurgitate damage in half! Also, if you happen to summon an Aeon while it's holding a character, that summon won't count towards the Regurgitate counter. Handy, right?
Besides those special moves, the Abyss Worm will use three regular attacks on your party. After those, it'll start charging up for Earthquake. Remember, it takes a full turn for it to charge up this attack. This is your cue to summon an Aeon, like Valefor, right before it goes off. The summoned Aeon will take the hit, and your party will be safe.
Here's another interesting tidbit: after it uses Earthquake, the Abyss Worm actually loses its immunity to Sleep. It still resists it pretty heavily, mind you, but it's vulnerable for a bit. It'll regain that immunity once it starts charging up for another big move. So, if you've got Sleep spells or abilities, now's your chance to try them!
If you've been working on your Celestial Weapons and have enough Strength to break the damage limit, this fight shouldn't be too much of a struggle. And as I mentioned before, keeping Protect on everyone is a lifesaver. Seriously, don't underestimate the power of Protect in this battle!
