Wendigo

Learn the best strategy to defeat the Wendigo and its Guado Guardians in Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. Get tips on item drops, stealing, and buffs.

Alright, so you've run into the Wendigo, huh? This guy hits like a truck, and he's not alone – those two Guado Guardians are a real pain. They can heal him with Auto-Potion, cure his Darkness status with Eye Drops, and even cast Berserk on him, which makes him hit even harder. Seriously, a Berserked Wendigo can one-shot you if you're not careful. Your first move should definitely be dealing with those Guardians.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• HP: 18,000
• Overkill HP: 1,432
• AP: 2,000
• Weak: Nothing
• Strong: Nothing

Item Drops:

• Common Drop: Power Sphere (x1)
• Rare Drop: Power Sphere (x2)
• Common Steal: Hi-Potion
• Rare Steal: X-Potion

Strategy:

• Phase 1: Deal with the Guado Guardians
  1. Use the Steal command on both Guado Guardians. This is super important because it disables their Auto-Potion ability, making them much easier to defeat.
  2. Once you've stolen from them, focus on taking them down. They can hit you with Thundara and Blizzara, but if you keep the pressure on, they shouldn't be able to do too much damage.
• Phase 2: Handle Wendigo's Buffs
  1. After the Guardians are gone, you'll notice they might have cast Protect and Shell on the Wendigo. If Yuna doesn't have Dispel yet, don't worry! You can still remove these buffs using Ixion's Aerospark ability. Quickly summon Ixion and use it.
  2. If the Wendigo gets Berserked (which is likely), use Esuna to cure it. Provoke and Threaten can also work to manage its aggression.
  3. Inflicting Darkness on the Wendigo is a good idea now that the Guardians are out of the picture. Also, using Power Break will help reduce its physical damage output.
• Phase 3: The Wendigo's Counter
  1. The Wendigo primarily attacks with physical punches. The main thing to watch out for is when its HP drops below 50%.
  2. At this point, it will raise its arms and signal that it's preparing a counter-attack. DO NOT attack it during this stance! Wait a few turns for it to lower its fists.
  3. It will eventually stop the counter stance, allowing you to attack normally again. Just be ready to back off if it prepares the stance again.
