Learn how to unlock and defeat the Ornitholestes fiend in the Monster Arena in Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. Get tips on its attacks and drops.

Alright, so you're looking to tackle Ornitholestes in the Monster Arena? This guy is one of the Species Creations, and you'll need to capture a few specific fiends before it even shows up. Don't worry, it's not too bad once you know what you're up against!

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • HP: 800,000
  • Overkill: 99,999
  • AP: 10,000
  • Weak: Nothing
  • Strong: Water (Nullifies), Fire (Absorbs)

Item Drops:

  • Common Drop: Gambler’s Spirit (x2)
  • Rare Drop: Dark Matter (x1)
  • Common Steal: Rename Card
  • Rare Steal: Chocobo Wing

How To Unlock:

To get Ornitholestes to appear in the Monster Arena, you need to capture at least three of the following fiends:

  • Dinonix
  • Iguion
  • Ipiria
  • Melusine
  • Raptor
  • Yowie
  • Zaurus

Strategy:

Ornitholestes isn't going to blow you away with its physical offense, but its special attacks can be a real pain. Keep an eye out for:

  • Poison Touch: This attack can zap away 75% of your current HP and inflict Poison. If you've got Poisonproof armor or a Ribbon, you'll be able to shrug off the Poison status, which is super helpful.
  • Drain Touch: This is basically like a physical attack that also drains your HP. It seems to use this more often when it's getting low on health. There's not much you can do to counter the HP drain itself, so your best bet is to just outlast it.

Because Ornitholestes has high Evasion and Agility, you'll really want a party with high Accuracy and Agility to stand a chance. If you're struggling to land hits, try using the skills Aim and Luck, and maybe even Jinx on the fiend to lower its evasion.

For survivability, Auto-Phoenix is a lifesaver since Ornitholestes only targets one character at a time. Combine that with Auto-Potion (especially with X-Potions equipped) and you'll be able to recover from its hits pretty quickly. Just keep chipping away, and you'll get through it!
