Learn how to unlock and defeat the challenging One-Eye species creation in Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster's Monster Arena, including its attacks and best strategies.

Alright, let's talk about One-Eye! This guy is a 'Species Creation' in the Monster Arena, meaning you gotta capture a bunch of other monsters before you can even fight him. He's a bit of a pain because his main attack hits your whole party with a bunch of annoying status effects. But don't worry, we'll get you through it!

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • HP: 150,000
  • Overkill HP: 15,000
  • AP: 10,000
  • Weaknesses: None
  • Resistances: Immune to Fire, Ice, Thunder, and Water

How to Unlock:

Before you can even think about fighting One-Eye, you need to capture at least four of each of these fiends:

  • Ahriman
  • Buer
  • Evil Eye
  • Floating Death
  • Floating Eye

Make sure you've got a good stock of captures for these guys before heading to the Monster Arena!

Phases:

One-Eye doesn't really have distinct 'phases' in the traditional sense, but its attack pattern is key to understanding how to beat it.

  1. Opening Move: Shockwave
This is almost always the first attack One-Eye uses. It hits your entire party and inflicts a nasty mix of ailments: Confusion, Darkness, Silence, Sleep, and Slow. It's a real party-wrecker if you're not prepared!
  2. Follow-up: Black Stare
After Shockwave, One-Eye often uses Black Stare. This targets a single character and inflicts the Curse status. It's less widespread than Shockwave but still a pain.
  3. Pattern Shift: Back to Shockwave
One-Eye will generally alternate between Black Stare and Shockwave, but it tends to favor Shockwave overall, especially after it's used Black Stare a few times.

Strategy:

  • Armor Up: Since Shockwave is so brutal, it's a good idea to equip armor that protects against Confusion, Darkness, and Sleep. These are the most disruptive ailments. Silence isn't as big a deal since One-Eye is immune to elemental magic anyway, and Slow can be quickly cured with Hastega.
  • Elemental Immunity: Remember, One-Eye is immune to Fire, Ice, Thunder, and Water, so don't waste your MP trying to exploit those weaknesses.
  • Flying Foe: One-Eye is a flying enemy, which can sometimes make it tricky to hit. However, its evasion isn't super high, so most attacks will connect.
  • Overdrive Power: Your Overdrives are your best friend here because they never miss! Tidus' Slice & Dice is particularly great because it hits six times. If you have his Celestial Weapon, the damage can be absolutely massive, potentially taking down One-Eye in just two hits if you're hitting for 99,999 damage each time.
  • Dealing with Ailments: Keep an eye on your party's status. Use items or abilities to cure Confusion, Darkness, Sleep, and Curse as needed. Hastega is super useful for negating the Slow effect quickly.

Item Drops:

  • Common Drop: Magic Def Sphere
  • Rare Drop: Dark Matter
  • Common Steal: Lunar Curtain (x3)
  • Rare Steal: Blessed Gem

Why Fight One-Eye?

Even though it can be tough, One-Eye is a fantastic enemy to farm for a couple of reasons:

  • Triple AP Weapons: This guy can drop weapons with up to three slots that have the Triple AP ability. This is HUGE for grinding out AP and leveling up your Sphere Grid.
  • Gil Farming: It costs 8,000 gil to fight One-Eye, but its equipment drops sell for more than that – usually starting around 9,000 gil and going up to about 67,000 gil. So, you're guaranteed to make a profit every time you defeat it.

It might take a few tries to get the hang of its attack patterns and build the right defenses, but One-Eye is definitely worth the effort for the rewards you get!
