Learn Bomb King's stats, weaknesses, and item drops in Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. Get the best strategy to defeat this powerful Monster Arena fiend.

Alright, let's talk about the Bomb King in the Monster Arena. This guy is a real powerhouse, but don't worry, we'll get you through it. It's basically a souped-up version of the Bombs you've already fought, but with a few nasty surprises.

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • HP: 480,000
  • Overkill: 10,000
  • AP: 10,000
  • Weak: Nothing
  • Strong: Fire (Absorbs)

Item Drops:

  • Common Drop: Door to Tomorrow
  • Rare Drop: Dark Matter
  • Common Steal: Fire Gem (x4)
  • Rare Steal: Shining Gem

How To Unlock:

Before you can even think about fighting the Bomb King, you need to capture at least five of each of these Bomb-type fiends:

  • Bomb
  • Grenade
  • Puroboros

Strategy:

So, the Bomb King is a bit of a progression. It starts off just wailing on one character with physical attacks. Pretty standard stuff, right? But here's where it gets tricky. After it hits someone three times, it'll puff up and start slinging Fira. Keep at it, and the second time it grows, it'll be tossing out Firaga. Now, you might think that's the worst of it, but nope! It can actually grow a third time, and trust me, you do NOT want that, because then it starts casting Ultima. That's the big one.

Here's the key thing to remember: counterattacks don't actually make the Bomb King grow. This is your golden ticket to making this fight way less stressful. Before you even step into the arena, slap Fire Eater on all three of your characters' armors. Then, on your weapons, try to get Counterattack or Magic Counter. Since you're likely using your Celestial Weapons, Tidus, Wakka, Kimahri, and Auron all have some form of counter built-in. If you've got Magic Counter, you can let it grow once and start using Fira, then just counter those spells. If you've got regular Counterattack or Evade & Counter, you can honestly just let it do its physical attacks and not worry about it growing too much.
