Understand stat growth in Final Fantasy Tactics, including base stats and growth rates for Hume classes like Soldier, Thief, and Black Mage.

Stat growth in Final Fantasy Tactics determines your units' overall strength. As your units gain levels, their stats increase. Different job classes (classes) accelerate the growth of certain stats more than others. The maximum a stat can reach is approximately 250, though this is practically impossible to achieve without cheats and does not apply to HP and MP.

When a unit gains a level, there is a 33% chance for a stat to increase by the listed growth amount, a 33% chance for a slightly lower increase, and a 33% chance for a slightly higher increase. The remaining 1% is distributed among these probabilities. Stat increases are often fractional, with the full effect taking hold when they reach a whole number. This growth does not account for bonuses from weapons and armor.

The general formula for calculating stat increases is: (Growth x 4) + 9, divided by 10. Speed levels differently, capping at approximately 37.5. A 0.25 speed boost occurs based on the percentage listed with the class's stat growth, taking effect once it reaches a whole number.

Tips
  • Focus on leveling units in classes that provide strong growth for the stats you want to prioritize for their role.
  • Consider the speed growth of a class, as it can significantly impact turn order in battles.
  • While equipment provides immediate stat boosts, it does not influence the underlying stat growth from leveling.
