Follow this Fallout 4 guide to complete the 'A New Threat' quest, detailing steps within the General Atomics Factory and Mrs. Nanny Testing areas, and how to find the Mechanist's Robots.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Explore the General Atomics Factory. Find a "Receptionist Terminal" in the entrance room. Head south into a hallway with bathrooms; one contains a Nuka Cherry.
  2. 2
Return to the lobby, go north up stairs, and defeat Mr. Handy robots. Pick a locked door [Expert] to enter an office.
  3. 3
In the office, find a "General Atomics ID Card" on a desk near "Kincaid's Terminal".
  4. 4
Exit the office and go west to another room. Find a "Tesla Science" magazine on a desk (if not already claimed).
  5. 5
Return downstairs to the lobby and go through a door to the south to reach an assembly line room with two Mr. Handy Robots. Defeat them.
  6. 6
Head upstairs to find a Laser Turret and loot. To proceed, jump on the assembly line and follow it east through a hole in the wall, or hack a Terminal [Novice] on the ground floor to open double doors.
  7. 7
Enter the "Mrs. Nanny Testing" area. Clear out robots and go through a door to the south (open it with the "QA Department Terminal").
  8. 8
Listen to the robotic voice. Enter a room to the south where a Teddy Bear acts as a baby. Grab the Large Baby Bottle from a dresser and place it in the Teddy Bear's inventory.
  9. 9
Return to the hallway, head west, then south to the third test room. Pick up a box of Abraxo Cleaner from a table, a Machete from the fridge, and an Adjustable Wrench from the floor under a footrest.
  10. 10
Head out into the hallway again, turn west to find an unlocked Safe. Loot it for Fusion Cores and other junk.
  11. 11
Return to the room to the north, head east through a doorway and up stairs. Enter a second-floor room and loot a Toolbox [Novice].
  12. 12
Head east to find a door [Advanced] leading to a small room with a wall Safe [Novice] and a First Aid Box. Loot them.
  13. 13
Head south to find two sealed doors with a Terminal.
  14. 14
Navigate to the upper room in the General Atomics Factory containing the Terminal that opens the double doors and the Steamer Trunk. From the entrance, take a left, go up stairs in the conveyor belt room, jump on the belt to go through the wall, and take a right to the upper floor.
  15. 15
Open the door using the Terminal and confront The Mechanist's Robots as they emerge. You will likely face two Swarmbots and a "Quantum Robobrain". Defeat them, preferably from a distance.
  16. 16
Loot the "Mechanist Device" from the "Quantum Robobrain's" body.
  17. 17
Talk to Ada. She will ask to install the device on her to track the Mechanist.
  18. 18
Build a Robot Workbench at a settlement if you haven't already. The required materials are: Gear x6, Oil x4, Screw x4, Plastic x4, Aluminum x12, Fiberglass x6, Circuitry x3, Nuclear Material x4.
  19. 19
    Gather the necessary materials.
  20. 20
Build the workbench and install the Mechanist Device on Ada.
  21. 21
Ada will update her systems and inform you that she can sense another Robobrain in the Commonwealth.
Tips
  • The "Receptionist Terminal" in the General Atomics Factory contains no useful information.
  • The "Tesla Science" magazine can be missed if you've already collected it on a previous playthrough.
  • You can use grenades or mines to deal with the robots emerging from the door in the General Atomics Factory, but it's not strictly necessary.
  • Let Ada tank damage from the "Quantum Robobrain" if you need assistance.
  • Scrap robot corpses for useful parts.
  • If you are missing materials for the Robot Workbench, tag them for search, complete other quests, or purchase them from merchants.
  • 98 XP for completing each trial in Mrs. Nanny Testing.
