Walkthrough
  1. 1
The Hold Out: Return to the National Park Visitor’s Center and speak with Uncle Ken. Name-drop Mitch to calm him. After he detects enemies, he'll grant access to the Workbench, turning the location into a settlement and potentially earning you the “Push Back the Fog” trophy/achievement.
  2. 2
Push Back The Fog: Check the Workshop for junk to build defenses. Enemies will attack from the south-west and north-east. Block the south-west entrance and focus on the north-east. Defeat the attacking Trappers.
  3. 3
Uncle Ken's Decision: Talk to Uncle Ken. Pass a moderate speech check to convince him to come with you. Two more speech checks will become available: a moderate one (“I’m taking you back”) and a hard one (“Consider it a vacation”).
  4. 4
If you convince him to leave, he will reside in The Last Plank.
  5. 5
If you don't convince him, he will stay at the National Park Visitor’s Center settlement.
  6. 6
Mitch rewards you the same regardless of your choice.
  7. 7
Echo Lake Lumber: Head south-east across the highway to Echo Lake Lumber. Clear out any Feral Ghouls, particularly in the multi-floor store to the south-west of the bleachers.
  8. 8
On the fourth floor, defeat the Glowing One and its minions.
  9. 9
Malcolm's Offer: A man named Malcolm will appear. You can choose to let him live, which involves sending Far Harbor settlers to him.
  10. 10
Agreeing to his offer nets you 615 Caps but Longfellow disapproves. This does NOT unlock the settlement.
  11. 11
You can also accept Malcolm’s bribe, tell Small Bertha about him, and then either argue on his behalf or against him. Siding against Malcolm and refusing his scheme will make him hostile.
  12. 12
Refusing to play a part in his cannibalistic scheme will cause him to turn hostile and attack.
  13. 13
Loot the Terminal for “Levi’s Holotape” and a First Aid Box.
  14. 14
In a Steamer Trunk upstairs, find “The Harvester”, a Ripper weapon with a “Chance to stagger on hit.”
  15. 15
Return to Far Harbor: Speak with Small Bertha.
  16. 16
If you took Malcolm’s bribe, you can send settlers to their doom (settlement not unlocked) or convince Small Bertha to let Malcolm have his land (less ideal).
  17. 17
If you told Small Bertha to kill or drive off Malcolm, Longfellow approves.
  18. 18
If you didn’t take Malcolm’s bribe, tell Small Bertha the news, and she will go to Captain Avery.
Tips
  • Break down trees and junk walls at the National Park Visitor’s Center to maximize building space.
  • The National Park Visitor’s Center is the first Far Harbor settlement without standing water, so high-end water pumps cannot be built there.
  • Break down (do not store) junk lying around settlements to remove debris piles that impede building.
  • When dealing with Malcolm, refusing his scheme and fighting him will unlock the settlement and yield rewards from both Malcolm and Teddy.
  • For checking up on Uncle Ken: 390 XP, 610 Caps, Fire Belly Recipe
  • For accepting Malcolm’s bribe: 615 Caps
