Follow this Fallout 4 guide to navigate Saugus Ironworks, defeat the Forged and Slag, and find the Explosives Bobblehead. Includes quest 'Out of the Fire'.
Walkthrough
- 1From The Slog, head south to find Saugus Ironworks. Avoid engaging the Forged for now and continue south to Finch Farm.
- 2Speak with Abraham at Finch Farm. He will ask you to retrieve a stolen family sword from his son, Jack, who has joined the Raiders at Saugus Ironworks. This starts the quest “Out of the Fire”.
- 3Return north to Saugus Ironworks. Clear out the Forged outside and on the roof.
- 4Locate a shack on the south-western side of the factory. Disarm the Tension Trigger on the door and the flame trap inside. Loot the shack for an Ammo Box.
- 5Enter Saugus Ironworks. Eliminate the Forged on the ground floor as you proceed south.
- 6Ascend a metal ramp at the southern end, then climb two flights of stairs.
- 7Pass by two bathrooms. One contains a Tension Trigger wired to a rigged gun.
- 8At the top of the second flight of stairs, find an elevated metal structure. Kill any Forged here and loot the area.
- 9Hack the Advanced Terminal in this structure to open doors leading to the second half of the factory.
- 10In the northern-most room of this structure, find a Novice Terminal. Activating it can summon a Protectron for assistance.
- 11Head north through some doors to find a ramp leading to the upper reaches of the factory. Be cautious of a Tripwire attached to Frag Grenades.
- 12Return to the room with the Advanced Terminal, hack it, and open the doors.
- 13Proceed to the eastern side of the factory, eliminating any Forged.
- 14Make your way down to the factory floor and head to the northern end to find stairs leading to a table with two Ammo Boxes and a First Aid Box.
- 15Head back south and ascend a ruined walkway, which serves as a ramp to the metal walkway on the eastern side.
- 16Venture north into a small room containing a First Aid Box on a metal Cabinet, a Weapon Workbench, and an Armor Workbench. A Terminal here details the Forged's punishments.
- 17Continue north and exit the shelter. Find stairs leading to the roof of the shelter.
- 18Follow the walkway south, then west, down a ramp to a concrete landing between the eastern and western ends of the factory. Loot the Jet found here.
- 19Return east, then north, and descend stairs to exit the metal shelter.
- 20Head west, go up a ramp, and pass a Power Armor Station to find a door to the east leading to the Saugus Blast Furnace.
- 21Enter the Saugus Blast Furnace. You will witness Slag, the leader of the Forged, inducting Jake.
- 22Engage in dialogue with Slag and Jake. You can attempt a speech check to convince Jake to comply or refuse. Regardless of your choice, the Forged will turn hostile.
- 23Defeat Slag (who is in Power Armor) and the other Forged. One enemy will have a Flamer.
- 24Loot Slag for the Shishkebab and the Sagus Roof Key.
- 25Find the Picket Fences magazine on the floor near a Steamer Trunk. Loot the Ammo Box under the trunk.
- 26Locate the Explosives Bobblehead on a nearby console.
- 27If Jake is alive, speak with him. He will ask to be taken home to Finch Farm.
- 28Head up a ramp north of Slag's former location to find “Slag’s Terminal” [Novice]. It mentions dealings with Gunners and a new gang, as well as Dunwich Borers.
- 29Head south down a ramp from Slag's location, then east down another ramp to find a Dampening Rod Sleeve. Extract the Dampening Rod (needed for Captain Zao's quest).
- 30Leave the Saugus Blast Furnace and go upstairs to the roof. Clear out the few Forged present.
- 31On the western end of the roof, find a structure with a Laser Tripwire.
- 32Return to Finch Farm to complete the quest and explain the situation to Abraham.

- Sagus Roof Key
- Explosives Bobblehead
