Walkthrough
  1. 1
Enter the Colonial Taphouse and witness Paul confront his wife Darcy and the barkeep Henry. Let the fight play out for now.
  2. 2
Speak with Henry and Darcy, then find Paul outside the Taphouse.
  3. 3
Save your game and equip Charisma gear. Talk to Paul, who asks you to help him get Henry to leave Darcy alone. Pass the easy speech check for payment and the moderate speech check to accompany him. This officially starts the “Diamond City Blues” quest.
  4. 4
Return to the Taphouse with Charisma gear. Talk to Henry (Darcy may be seen on the way). Tell him you have a problem regarding Darcy. Use a moderate “Threaten” speech check or easy speech checks to intimidate him.
  5. 5
Henry apologizes and promises Darcy won't return. Ask for something more concrete, and Henry will offer you a drug deal with the Latimer kid. Agree to go with Henry.
  6. 6
After Henry leaves, loot the Taphouse. You can find “Gwinett Ale Brewing Subroutines” and an ammo box behind the counter, plus an [Advanced] locked safe.
  7. 7
Decide whether to tell Paul about Henry's drug deal or not. Telling him gives you a helper (of little use) and more speech check options but less loot. Keeping him in the dark yields significantly more loot.
  8. 8
If you keep Paul in the dark: Go to the Dugout Inn (or follow the marker) to find Paul. Tell him about the deal or say “Good Luck” to drop the subject. Talk to him again to assure him Henry is no longer a problem for Darcy, and he will give you the promised caps.
  9. 9
If you bring Paul along: He will head out with you to the drug deal.
  10. 10
Head to Back Street Apparel, north of Diamond City, for the drug deal. Walk with Henry if you wish; he'll provide flavor text and a plan.
  11. 11
Outside Back Street Apparel, Nelson Latimer is waiting for Henry. Approach the deal. You will inevitably fight the dealers (three Triggermen and Trish, their boss).
  12. 12
The smart approach is to take out the farthest Triggerman with a powerful close-range weapon, then use VATS to eliminate the other Triggerman and Nelson. Leave Trish alive.
  13. 13
Save your game and equip your best Charisma gear. Talk to Trish immediately before Henry can act.
  14. 14
Trish begs for her life and offers to reveal Marowski’s drug lab location. Ask how you can trust her. Use the “Tell me first” speech check (first speech check with Trish). If you fail, she attacks; if you succeed, she reveals the lab is at the “Four Leaf Fishpacking Plant”.
  15. 15
Ask Trish about “Secure” to learn it's filled with Feral Ghouls. Ask about “More to it” to learn the door requires tripping laser wires in order.
  16. 16
Ask Trish “How do I get in?” to receive the password “Applejack” for the terminal, which grants the “Four Leaf Security Password” key item. This bypasses the laser mine puzzle.
  17. 17
Assure Trish you won't kill her (easy speech check). If Henry is present, he will kill Trish. If Paul is present, he will help.
Tips
  • Equip Charisma gear for speech checks.
  • Keeping Paul in the dark about the drug deal generally leads to more loot.
  • Prioritize taking out the Triggermen and Nelson quickly during the drug deal.
  • Talking to Trish immediately after neutralizing the others is crucial to prevent Henry from killing her and to obtain valuable information.
  • Experience Points (XP) from speech checks and quest completion.
  • Caps from Paul.
  • Loot from the Colonial Taphouse (including an Advanced locked safe).
  • Potentially more loot if Paul is kept out of the drug deal information.
  • “Four Leaf Security Password” key item.
