Follow this Fallout 4 guide to complete the Confidence Man quest, including the barfight with Bull, convincing Scarlett, and navigating the Fens Street Sewers to find Vadim.
Walkthrough
- 1To start the quest "Confidence Man," enter the Dugout Inn for the second time and overhear Vadim and Yefim complaining about the radio. Agree that it sucks, then follow Vadim into a back room. Discuss the matter with Vadim, haggle on the price, and agree to return after 6:00 P.M.
- 2Wait until after 6:00 P.M. Travis will appear, bothered by two thugs, Bull and Gouger. Unequip your weapon and approach them bare-handed. Talk to Travis and encourage him to stand up for himself. When prompted, tell him you have his back. Travis will start a fight with the bullies.
- 3Help Travis defeat Bull and Gouger. After they are beaten, they will threaten to return. Talk to Travis again and encourage him; he will leave to "think things over."
- 4Talk to Vadim. He wants you to convince Scarlett, the waitress at the Dugout Inn, to go see Travis. Agree to help and find Scarlett (she may be outside near the "green monster"). Save your game before talking to her, as there is a speech check. Persuade, bribe, or threaten her to go see Travis. These speech checks are generally easy.
- 5After Scarlett agrees to see Travis, return to the Dugout Inn. Yefim will greet you, claiming that Bull and Gouger kidnapped Vadim. Yefim doesn't know where they went, but suggests Travis might.
- 6Go to Travis's radio station and talk to him. Ask if he knows where Bull went. Travis will agree that finding Vadim is the priority and asks you to meet him at the "Beantown Brewery," located northwest of Diamond City. Travis will go to find a gun and meet you there.
- 7Head to the "Beantown Brewery."
- 8Before reaching the brewery, you will encounter the "Fens Street Sewers." To find the entrance, head west from Diamond City to a street, turn north, and go through a barricade. Ignore the first street to the west, but proceed down the second street past a guard post until you find a skeleton near a manhole.
- 9Before descending, head northwest to find a Super Mutant camp near a diner. Clear out the Super Mutants.
- 10Descend into the sewers. Go to the first cabinet you see (near the skeleton) and retrieve the "Dear Detective 1" tape. Play it to learn about the "Fens Phantom."
- 11Head north down a tunnel into the main sewer area. Turn northwest to find a skeleton, then continue east through the watery sewer. You will encounter two Ghouls; kill them.
- 12When you reach the eastern end of the sewer, go up a ramp to the south, then down another tunnel. Past some pipes, you'll find a BBQ with a Ghoul nearby. Kill the Ghoul and check the BBQ for the "Dear Detective 2" tape.
- 13Continue east to an area with heavy radiation. Consider using Rad-X. Shoot down the three Bloatflies in the area. Head through a hole in the wall to the north to exit the radiated area.
- 14Keep heading north until you reach a path split. Go north to a water area with a bridge. Be prepared to fight more Ghouls here.
- 15Cross the metal bridge, climb a slope, and enter a tunnel. You will reach a room with mannequins and the "Dear Detective 3" tape. Kill the Ghoul in the area.
- 16Continue west down another tunnel to a room with ramps leading up to stairs. Follow the stairs, then head west past machinery to a doorway. Loot the Toolbox [Novice] near the yellow machinery.
- 17Enter a larger room filled with mannequins. Two Ghouls are in the middle, and a Glowing One is in the northeast corner. Defeat the Ghouls and the Glowing One, using a sneak attack if possible.
Tips
- When confronting Bull and Gouger with Travis, un-equip your weapon and use bare fists.
- Save your game before attempting to persuade Scarlett, as it involves a speech check.
- In the Fens Street Sewers, be prepared for radiation in certain areas and consider using Rad-X.
- The Glowing One in the Fens Street Sewers is the toughest enemy; try to get a sneak attack on it.
