Follow our Fallout 4 guide to complete the Dangerous Minds quest. Uncover Kellogg's memories, find a lead to Brian Virgil, and prepare for The Glowing Sea.
Walkthrough
- 1Fast-travel to Goodneighbor and enter The Memory Den.
- 2Speak with Irma, then head downstairs to meet Doctor Amari.
- 3Explain your needs to Doctor Amari and give her the brain piece.
- 4Ask about Nick's compatibility; Amari will attempt to extract memories but they are encoded.
- 5Amari proposes using two synchronized brains to bypass encryption. Agree to get into the pod.
- 6Before entering the pod, loot the area. You can find a copy of Robco Fun, which includes the Grognak the Barbarian holotape game.
- 7Enter the pod to begin the memory dive.
- 8Follow the purple brain synapses to the first memory. Press [X] (PS4) or [A] (Xbox One) on any character to access Kellogg's thoughts.
- 9Observe the first memory: Kellogg as a young boy in a rough home. You can click on objects like the door or people for Kellogg's thoughts.
- 10Continue through the synapses to Kellogg's first "family life" memory. Note the baby.
- 11Proceed to the third memory, which involves Kellogg taking vengeance.
- 12Move to the fourth memory to see Kellogg's new life, commenting on the bar, wastelanders, and Kellogg himself.
- 13Reach the fifth memory: Kellogg's first encounter with the Institute. Watch until the end.
- 14In the sixth memory, listen to commentary from Kellogg, Institute Scientists, the Cryopod, yourself ("Backup Subject"), and your wife/son ("Primary Subject").
- 15In the final memory, see Kellogg in Diamond City with a grown Shaun. This memory reveals why the Institute is hard to find and provides a lead: Brian Virgil has escaped to The Glowing Sea.
- 16Inspect the TV to exit the memory pod.
- 17Doctor Amari will brief you on the next steps: finding Brian Virgil in the highly irradiated Glowing Sea. She suggests a Radiation Suit and chems, or Power Armor.
- 18The quest "Dangerous Minds" is now complete. The next main story quest, "The Glowing Sea", will unlock.
- 19Head upstairs to talk to Nick Valentine. Decide whether to bring him along on your next journey.
Tips
- Looting The Memory Den before entering the pod can yield valuable items, including the Robco Fun holotape.
- During the memory dives, interacting with characters or objects provides insight into Kellogg's perspective.
- The Glowing Sea is extremely dangerous due to high radiation. Ensure you have adequate protection (Radiation Suit, Power Armor) before proceeding.
