Follow Captain Avery and defend the Hull from Gulpers and Anglers in Fallout 4's Far Harbor DLC. Earn Caps and begin the 'Living on the Edge' quest.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Upon arrival, proceed forward to meet the welcoming party, including Captain Avery.
  2. 2
Follow Avery to "The Hull" in front of the main gates.
  3. 3
Prepare for an attack as survivors approach the gate.
  4. 4
Gulpers and Anglers will attack from the left and right. To effectively target them and protect the survivors, jump down to the street and position yourself between the enemies and the survivors.
  5. 5
Defeat all attacking enemies and loot their bodies.
  6. 6
After the attack, the gate will open. Jared Gresham, the leader of the survivors, will thank you and reward you with 140 Caps.
  7. 7
Jared will then express his grievances about Far Harbor.
  8. 8
Speak with Captain Avery, who will also thank you and give you an additional 275 Caps for defending the Hull.
  9. 9
Captain Avery will discuss Acadia and the need for a guide, suggesting you find "Longfellow" at "The Last Plank" bar.
  10. 10
Allen will interrupt, blaming cultists and seeking help to get rid of them.
  11. 11
Captain Avery will then give you directions and a brief history of Far Harbor.
  12. 12
She will also ask you to find a missing harborman named Howard Dunbar and fix broken Fog Condensers, starting the quest "Safe Passage".
  13. 13
Head west to find The Mariner, who needs "specialized tools" and offers 450 Caps. A successful speech check can also get you "Old Jimmy’s shotgun". This starts the quest "Hull Breach", directing you to Eagle’s Cove Tannery.
  14. 14
    Explore the town:
  15. 15
Find a Power Armor Station to the north-west.
  16. 16
    Note convenient containers for storage.
  17. 17
Visit Allen’s shop (north-east) for ammo, armor, and weapons. Pass a speech check to get 150 Caps. He sells the unique weapons "Admiral’s Friend" and "The Fish Catcher". His shop also has a Weapon Workbench and an Armor Workbench.
  18. 18
Visit Brooks' general store (further north-east) to buy the legendary "Recon Marine Helmet" for approximately 10,000 Caps.
  19. 19
Find Teddy Wright, the doctor, in the same building. He offers medical services and chems.
  20. 20
Offer to help his patient, Andre. You can treat him with a high Intelligence score (8+), the Medic perk (2+ ranks), or a Mysterious Serum.
Tips
  • Positioning yourself between the enemies and the survivors is key to effectively defending "The Hull" and preventing enemies from getting underfoot.
  • Consider passing the speech checks with Allen to gain Caps and his acknowledgment.
  • The unique weapons sold by Allen might be useful, but likely outclassed if you've completed the main game.
  • The "Recon Marine Helmet" is very expensive but offers useful stat boosts.
  • Healing Andre can be done through various means, including using the Mysterious Serum from the Cabot House questline.
  • 140 Caps from Jared Gresham
  • 275 Caps from Captain Avery for defending the Hull
  • Initiation of quests: "Living on the Edge", "Safe Passage", and "Hull Breach"
