Learn how to complete the Trail of the Master Sword in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This guide covers reaching Korok Forest, curing the Deku Tree, and defeating Gloom Hands and Phantom Ganon.
Walkthrough
- 1Start the Quest: You can begin the Trail of the Master Sword quest at any point, but you'll be prompted to go to Korok Forest after speaking with Mineru post-Spirit Temple. Ensure you have two full stamina wheels and upgraded gear before starting.
- 2Reach Korok Forest: Unlike in Breath of the Wild, you cannot enter the Lost Woods directly. Instead, start from Woodland Stable, head north towards the Lost Woods, and drop into the Minshi Woods Chasm to enter the Depths.
- 3Navigate the Depths: From the chasm, head northwest towards Korok Grove. You may encounter Gloom Hands. Near Rikonasum Lightroot, find a large pillar. Use the Ascend ability beneath it to reach Korok Forest.
- 4Cure the Deku Tree: Upon arriving at the Deku Tree, you'll find it and the Koroks unresponsive. To cure it, head to the room at the base of the Deku Tree and drop down the Deku Tree Chasm into the Depths.
- 5Defeat Gloom Hands and Phantom Ganon: In the chasm room, you must defeat Gloom Hands. Bomb Flower arrows are effective for area damage. Sages, especially Riju, can help draw aggro and deal damage. After defeating the Gloom Hands, a Phantom Ganon mini-boss will appear. Use ranged weapons and Bomb Flowers to attack from a distance, dodging its powerful weapon swings and charges. Plenty of food for healing is recommended.
- 6Speak with the Deku Tree: After defeating Phantom Ganon, Koroks will descend. Fast travel to Musanokir Shrine on the surface. Speak with Chio the Korok near the base of the Deku Tree, who will instruct you to climb the roots to interact with the Deku Tree.
Tips
- Having at least one or two Sages equipped can help distract Gloom Hands. Riju's lightning is particularly effective.
- Bomb Flowers can temporarily incapacitate Gloom Hands and are useful for dealing damage to Phantom Ganon.
- Maintain distance when fighting Phantom Ganon, as its weapon has a long reach.
- Ensure you have ample healing items before the boss fight.
