You become proficient with Heavy Armor. Armored Hulks, Steelbloods, Cavaliers (not Beast Rider), Fighters (all), Paladins (not Divine Hunter), Warpriests (not Cult Leader) and the Hellknight Signifer prestige class gain this proficiency automatically. An Armored Battlemage gains the ability to wear heavy armour at level 7 while most other Magus archetypes gain the ability at level 13.

Select one type of armour (light, medium, or heavy) and gain +1 AC (Armor Class) when wearing that type of armour.

The AC bonus granted by your shield increases by +1.
Greater Shield Focus
The AC bonus granted by your shield increases by an additional +1.
Missile Shield
When equipped with a shield and not flat-footed (lacking a Dexterity bonus to AC), you may deflect one ranged weapon attack once per round.
Ray Shield
When using a light, heavy or tower shield, add your shield bonus (not including enhancement bonuses) to your touch AC (Armor Class based on Dexterity).
Shield Bash
You may attack with light and heavy shields. A light shield deals 1-3 damage and is considered a light weapon. A heavy shield deals 1-4 damage. Two-weapon fighting penalties apply to the shield attack.
Stumbling Bash
Creatures struck by your shield bash take a -2 penalty to their AC for 1 round.
Toppling Bash
Once per round when you hit a creature with shield bash, you can make a trip combat manoeuvre at -5 penalty. This does not provoke an attack of opportunity.
Shield Master
You don't suffer penalties to your attack rolls made with a shield and the shield's enhancement bonus is added to attack and damage rolls.
Bashing Finish
When you score a critical hit with a melee weapon, you can make a shield bash attack against the same target as a free action using the same attack bonus.
- Consider the specific class abilities when choosing armor proficiency feats, as many classes gain proficiencies automatically.
- Shield Master is a powerful feat for shield bash builds, removing penalties and adding bonuses to attack and damage.
- Ray Shield significantly boosts your touch AC against certain attacks, making it valuable for characters who rely on shields for defense.
