Master the Lake of Rot! This guide details Astel, Naturalborn of the Void and the Dragonkin Soldier, including their locations, drops, and strategies for Elden Ring.

Alright, Tarnished, let's talk about the Lake of Rot. It's a nasty place, full of scarlet rot and some seriously tough enemies. We're going to focus on the main threats here: Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, and the Dragonkin Soldier. Don't worry, I'll walk you through it!

Astel, Naturalborn of the Void

So, Astel. This is a big one, a 'Legend boss' as they call it. You'll find this cosmic horror chilling in a secret area. To get there, you need to find a coffin near the Grand Cloister site of grace, specifically on the west side of it, down in the southern part of the Lake of Rot. This fight is actually part of Ranni the Witch's questline, so if you're following that, you'll end up here eventually. If you need more help with Ranni's quest, check out our dedicated guide for it.

Once you finally put Astel down, you'll be rewarded with the Remembrance of the Naturalborn. You can take this to Enia back at the Roundtable Hold and trade it for either the Ash of War: Waves of Darkness or the powerful Bastard's Stars weapon. Choose wisely!

Dragonkin Soldier

Next up is the Dragonkin Soldier. You'll encounter this beast near Worshipper's Woods in the Lake of Rot. Fun fact: you might have already tangled with a Dragonkin Soldier over in Siofra River. This fight has a bit of a nasty environmental hazard – the red water that causes Scarlet Rot. To deal with it, you'll want to activate the four platforms around the arena. There's a pressure plate to the east of the Dragonkin Soldier that will raise them. Keep an eye on those platforms and try to stay out of the rot! Defeating this guy nets you the Dragonscale Blade, which is a pretty sweet weapon.

Tips
  • For Astel, be ready for its gravity magic and teleportation. Staying close can sometimes help avoid its more devastating attacks, but watch out for its tail swipe.
  • Against the Dragonkin Soldier, prioritize raising the platforms to avoid the Scarlet Rot. Its sweeping attacks can be tough to dodge, so timing your dodges is key.
