Struggling with Starscourge Radahn in Elden Ring? Learn the best NPC companions to summon, Radahn's key attacks, and how to counter them to finally beat the demigod.
Alright, Tarnished, let's talk about Starscourge Radahn. This guy is a major roadblock for a lot of players, but don't sweat it! We'll get you through this. He's located in the Wailing Dunes in Caelid, and getting to him is part of the challenge.
How to Get to Radahn:
There are two main ways to get to the Radahn Festival. The first, and probably the most common, is by following Ranni the Witch's questline. This will eventually lead you to Redmane Castle in Caelid, where you can use a waygate to warp directly to the Wailing Dunes arena.
If you're not feeling Ranni's quest, you can also reach him by activating any Site of Grace in the Altus Plateau. To get there, you'll need the Dectus Medallion (Left) from Fort Haight in Mistwood and the Dectus Medallion (Right) from Fort Faroth in Dragonbarrow. Use the Grand Lift of Dectus, which is northeast of the Liurnia of the Lakes. Once you're in the Altus Plateau, rest at a Site of Grace until nighttime to trigger the Radahn Festival. Then, head to the Impassable Greatbridge bonfire, and you'll be ready to face him.
Why You Should Fight Radahn:
Even though Radahn is technically optional – you only *need* to beat two demigods to get to Leyndell, Royal Capital – you absolutely should fight him. He's a fantastic boss, and skipping him means missing out on potential game endings and locking yourself out of Nokron, Eternal City. Plus, Nokron has the amazing Mimic Tear spirit ash!
Radahn's Rewards:
- Runes: 70,000
- Drops: Remembrance of the Starscourge, Radahn’s Great Rune
Your Allies: The NPC Companions
You can summon up to five NPC companions to help you out. Look for golden summon signs scattered around the arena. While they're mostly there to distract Radahn and draw his aggro, some are definitely better than others:
- Lionel the Lionhearted: Uses a heavy thrusting sword and Rancorcall. Not as tanky as he looks.
- Great Horned Tragoth: Aggressive with a Greathammer, deals decent damage and distracts well. Can be slow to reach Radahn and might get one-shot by ranged attacks.
- Okina: Wields Rivers of Blood and a bow. Very aggressive but super squishy, so he dies fast.
- Alexander, Warrior Jar: Strong and tanky, deals good damage and lasts a while. Can only be summoned once.
- Patches: Seriously, don't bother. He shows up and immediately bails.
- Blaidd the Half Wolf: One of the best! Very tanky, deals good damage, and is a great distraction. He can take a beating.
- Finger Maiden Therolina: A healer, not a fighter. She stays on the edges and heals you and others. Squishy, but useful if Radahn is focused on the melee fighters.
- Castellan Jerren: Only summonable in the second phase. Tanky but low damage, good for drawing aggro. Hard to find his sign in the chaos.
Remember, you can resummon most NPCs if they die, as their signs will reappear. The only exception is Alexander, Warrior Jar.
Radahn's Attacks:
Radahn wields two colossal swords and a massive bow called the Lion Greatbow. Here's a breakdown of his key attacks:
- Multi-Arrow Bow Attack: When you first start the fight, Radahn will be incredibly far away and unleash a volley of arrows. You'll want to summon your horse, Torrent, immediately and weave left and right to dodge these. The golden arrow projectiles are slower and easier to dodge than the purple ones.
