How to Beat Mad Pumpkin Head in Waypoint Ruins

Alright, so you've stumbled upon the Waypoint Ruins and this big ol' pumpkin-headed fella is blocking your path. Don't worry, he looks a bit scarier than he actually is. Defeating him is key because it unlocks Sorceress Sellen, a super useful NPC for magic users. You'll find him chilling in the Waypoint Ruins Cellar, which is east of the lake near the Church of Elleh. Once he's down, you can finally use that Site of Grace in the cellar and chat with Sellen to grab some sweet Sorcery spells.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Attacks: Primarily uses a flail, but also has swipes and a dangerous head slam.
• Weak Point: His armored head takes very little damage. Aim for his body.
• Best Strategy: Summon spirits to distract him, then attack from behind or flank him.

Phases:

1. Phase 1: The Mad Pumpkin Head uses a variety of flail swings and swipes. He also has a devastating head slam attack.
2. Phase 2: No distinct second phase, but his attacks can become more aggressive and unpredictable as the fight progresses.

Strategy:

• Summon Your Spirits: Seriously, don't skip this. Use your Spirit Calling Bell to summon your best spirit allies. They'll draw his aggro, giving you tons of breathing room.
• Melee Users: Your goal is to stay behind him while your spirits keep him busy. If he turns to face you, either block with a 100% physical damage negation shield (if you have one) or dodge his attacks. After he finishes a combo, you'll have a small window to get a few hits in. Be careful not to spam dodges; save your stamina for crucial moments. Any hits to his armored head will do almost no damage, so aim for his body.
• Ranged/Magic Users: This fight is arguably easier for you. Let your spirits tank. Cast your spells from a safe distance. When he turns to you, just dodge or roll away until he refocuses on the spirits. Remember, hitting his helmet is a waste of magic; aim for his torso.
• General Tips: Pay close attention to his attack animations. Most of his moves are telegraphed, especially the head slam (he'll raise his head). Learning the timing of his attacks will make blocking and dodging much more efficient. Don't get greedy with your hits; prioritize survival and only attack when you have a clear opening.
