Learn about guard behavior, security cameras, and movement mechanics in Hitman World of Assassination. Find out how to disable cameras and handle guards.

Guard Behavior:

If you knock out a Guard (an NPC (non-player character — anyone the game controls, not you), or non-player character, who patrols an area and enforces rules), they will drop a weapon. Unlike in previous Hitman games, Guards in Hitman World of Assassination are permanently armed. If a Guard you took a weapon from is revived, they will pull out another weapon. However, a Guard will only drop a weapon the first time you knock them out. If you take a Guard Disguise from a subdued Guard and they are revived, they will run to the nearest Closet (a storage space) to change back into their clothes before resuming their patrol.

Security Cameras and Recorders:

On Professional and Master difficulties, you may encounter Security Cameras on walls. Depending on your Disguise (an outfit that can alter how NPCs perceive you), being seen by a camera may have no effect. However, if you are in the wrong Disguise or perform an illegal action, being seen will alert Guards. Cameras emit a visible green laser-like mesh indicating their field of vision; wait for the camera to pan away before moving. If you are seen, you will hear a beep and receive a message that you were recorded. You can shoot a camera to disable it, but this may attract attention. Cameras are connected to a Recorder, usually found near a security area. Destroying the Recorder, by deactivating it manually, shooting it, or using explosives, will destroy all recordings and render all cameras on the map useless. It is most effective to find and destroy the Recorder first.

Movement and Stealth:

You can make Agent 47 (the protagonist) walk by moving the Left Analog Stick forward. To run, move the Left Analog Stick in conjunction with the Run Button. In large crowds, you can push through faster using the Run Button. Sneaking is crucial; crouch down and move slowly to stealthily navigate areas and approach targets from behind. Running while crouched is not recommended as it attracts attention. Pressing up against a wall can make you harder to see when NPCs walk past, and is useful when waiting for someone to enter a room.

Melee Attacks and Subduing:

To take down NPCs, you can use bare hands. Approaching someone from behind allows you to subdue them or break their neck. Once you start subduing someone, you must complete the action. Subduing makes noise that may attract nearby NPCs, and a subdued person can be awakened by a Guard. Attacking from the front will result in a quick beatdown.

Tips
  • Always be aware of your Disguise when near Security Cameras.
  • Prioritize destroying the Security Camera Recorder to disable all cameras.
  • Use the sneak function to remain undetected when moving around enemies.
  • Subduing enemies from behind is generally safer than frontal attacks.
  • Be mindful of the noise you make when subduing NPCs.
