In the chaotic Sea of Thieves, knowing how to execute quick escape maneuvers can be the difference between a successful voyage and a watery grave. Whether you're ambushed by enemy pirates, overwhelmed by a kraken, or simply need to disengage from a losing battle, swift and decisive action is key to survival.

One of the most effective quick escape maneuvers involves utilizing your ship's sails and rudder in conjunction with environmental factors. If you're being pursued, angle your sails to maximize speed and steer towards the nearest island or a dense fog bank. Islands can provide cover, allowing you to break line of sight and potentially lose your pursuers. Fog banks are excellent for disappearing entirely, giving you a chance to repair damage or change course undetected. Another tactic is to use the anchor drop and raise maneuver: dropping anchor suddenly can cause your ship to spin, disorienting attackers and allowing you to change direction rapidly. Immediately raising the anchor allows for a swift acceleration away from danger.

For more dire situations, such as being boarded by an enemy crew, a coordinated effort is required. If you can't repel the boarders, a desperate maneuver might involve sailing directly towards a nearby island or even a Megalodon or Kraken if one is present, hoping the chaos will allow you to escape. Alternatively, if your ship is heavily damaged, a strategic scuttling might be your only option to prevent enemies from capturing your loot. This involves intentionally sinking your own ship after securing any valuable items in a rowboat or by dropping them overboard. The "On Demand" system, introduced in Season 11, also allows players to quickly dive into new voyages, effectively leaving a difficult situation behind, though this means losing any treasure on board.
