The Gold Curse & Its Origins — Sea of Thieves Walkthrough

Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found through dedicated Voyages offered by Trading Companies, or randomly across the Sea of Thieves. Look for islands, shipwrecks, barrels, fort vaults, and enemy encounters (Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, Krakens). Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, making them visible from afar.

Carrying Treasure: Each treasure item must be carried by hand. While carrying treasure, a pirate cannot use equipment or resource items. You can hold one treasure item at a time. Smaller items can be stored in Container Chests, which hold up to 3 items and can hide their glow.

Selling Treasure: Take treasure to the respective Trading Company representative at any Outpost. Each company values specific types of treasure. Selling treasure earns you Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value (if sailing as an Emissary for that company).

Treasure Types: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company they belong to: Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance. Within these, they can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, or Ghostly variants.

Gold Hoarder Treasure: This includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts. Treasure Chests are sold to the Gold Hoarders, who have the keys to open them. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests. Artefacts are smaller valuable items found in chests, vaults, or across the seas.

Treasure Mechanics: Treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes (except Trade Good Crates). Picking up relevant treasure as an Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation.
