This guide section focuses on the mechanics and types of treasure found in Sea of Thieves. It details how treasure is obtained, sold to trading companies, and the different categories of treasure items available.

Mechanics:

• Treasure is the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
• Each Trading Company values specific treasure types and has representatives at Outposts.
• Treasure can be found randomly across the seas, on islands, in shipwrecks, or obtained from enemies.
• Treasure items emit a colored glint for easy spotting.
• Treasure must be carried by hand to a Company Representative for a payout.
• A pirate can only carry one treasure item at a time and cannot fight or use equipment while doing so.
• Treasure can be retrieved with a Harpoon.
• Smaller treasure items can be placed in Container Chests to hide their glow and sound, with each chest holding up to 3 items.
• Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates.
• Picking up treasure as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation.

Types of Treasure Items:

Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them.

• Gold Hoarders Treasure: Items sold to the Gold Hoarders for Gold and Reputation. These include Treasure Chests (Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, Cursed) and Artefacts (Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal/Ghostly).
