Learn how to find, carry, and sell all types of treasure in Sea of Thieves. Discover mechanics, types of treasure, and how to maximize your Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
Walkthrough
- 1Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within forts, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken. All treasure items emit a colored glint or glow for easy spotting.
- 2Carrying Treasure: Treasure must be carried by hand to a Trading Company Representative. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while doing so. Dropping the treasure allows for full control. Harpoons can retrieve treasure from a distance. Smaller treasures can be placed in Container Chests (holding up to 3 items) to hide their glow and simplify transport.
- 3Treasure Persistence: Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
- 4Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant treasure. Additional Reputation is gained when these items are placed on the ship, with increases given only upon the first claim of an item.
- 5Trading Companies: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that buys them: Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, or Skeletal and Ghostly variants.
- 6Gold Hoarders Treasure: This category includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts.
- 7Treasure Chests: These are unbreakable and locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. They can be found via maps, in Ancient Vaults, or randomly. They emit a white glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests.
- 8Artefacts: These are smaller items found on their own, in chests, or in fortress vaults. They emit a golden glint and include Trinkets, Containers, and Ornaments.
Tips
- Use Container Chests to carry multiple smaller treasures and hide their glow.
- Harpoons are useful for retrieving treasure from a distance.
- Pay attention to the colored glint to identify treasure types from afar.
- Prioritize selling treasure relevant to your current Trading Company Emissary status to maximize rewards.
