Learn how to find, carry, and sell various treasures in Sea of Thieves. Discover different treasure types, their locations, and how they contribute to your Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
Walkthrough
- 1Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found randomly on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within vaults in forts, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken. Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, making them visible from afar.
- 2Carrying Treasure: Each treasure item must be carried by hand to its respective Trading Company representative. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or fight while carrying treasure. Dropping the item allows for full control. Harpoons can retrieve treasure from a distance. Smaller items can be placed in Container Chests (holding up to 3) to hide their glow and simplify transport.
- 3Treasure Lifespan: Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
- 4Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary and picking up relevant treasure grants Emissary Grade Reputation. Additional Reputation is gained when the treasure is placed on the ship. These bonuses apply only to the first time a treasure item is claimed.
- 5Trading Companies: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that buys them: Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, or Ghostly variants.
- 6Gold Hoarders Treasure: These items are sold to the Gold Hoarders for Gold and Reputation. Selling as a Gold Hoarder Emissary increases rewards and Emissary Value.
- 7Treasure Chests: Unbreakable chests sold to Gold Hoarders. Found via maps, in Ancient Vaults, or randomly. Emit a white glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen (found in The Devil's Roar, double price), Valuable, and Cursed.
- 8Artefacts: Smaller items found individually, in treasure chests, or fortress vaults. Emit a golden glint. Types include regular trinkets, containers, and ornaments made of valuable metals and gems.
