This guide section focuses on Treasure in Sea of Thieves, which are transportable items that can be sold to Trading Companies for Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value. Treasure is the primary source of wealth and progression in the game.

Mechanics:

Treasure is sold to Representatives of various Trading Companies located at Outposts. Each company values specific types of treasure. Voyages can be undertaken to acquire treasure, but it can also be found randomly across the seas, in shipwrecks, forts, or taken by enemies. Treasure items emit a colored glint for visibility. Players must carry treasure by hand, which restricts their ability to fight or use equipment. Harpoons can retrieve treasure from afar. Smaller items can be stored in Container Chests. Treasure left on land remains, but treasure in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, with the exception of Trade Good Crates. Sailing as an Emissary grants bonus Reputation when collecting relevant treasure.

Types of Treasure Items:

Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company they are sold to. The three main companies are the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, or Skeletal/Ghostly variants.

Gold Hoarders Treasure:

Items sold to the Gold Hoarders for Gold and Reputation. Emissary status increases rewards.

• Treasure Chests: Unbreakable, locked chests found via maps, in vaults, or randomly. They emit a White Glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed Chests. Ashen chests are more valuable and found in The Devil's Roar.
• Artefacts: Smaller items found independently, in chests, or vaults. They emit a Golden Glint. Types include Trinkets, Containers, and Ornaments made of valuable materials.
