Master Sea of Thieves treasure hunting! Learn about all treasure types, where to find them, how to carry and sell them to Trading Companies for Gold and Reputation.
Walkthrough
- 1Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found through Voyages, randomly on Islands, in Barrels of Plenty, Shipwrecks, Vaults in Forts, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken.
- 2Carrying Treasure: A pirate can only carry one treasure item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while carrying it. Treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can retrieve treasure from afar. Smaller items can be placed in Container Chests (holding up to 3 items) to hide their glow and make transport easier.
- 3Treasure Persistence: Treasure left on land stays until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
- 4Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary and picking up relevant treasure increases Emissary Grade Reputation. Additional Reputation is gained when the treasure is put on the ship. These increases are given only on the first claim of a treasure item.
- 5Trading Companies: Each Trading Company values specific treasure types and has Representatives at every Outpost. They accept related treasures for Gold/Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value. Representatives also offer Voyages.
- 6Treasure Types: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that buys them (Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, Merchant Alliance). Within these, they can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, or Ghostly variants.
- 7Gold Hoarders Treasure: Items sold to the Gold Hoarders include Treasure Chests and Artefacts.
- 8Treasure Chests: These are locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests. They emit a White Glint.
- 9Artefacts: Smaller items found on their own, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint.
Tips
- Use a Harpoon to retrieve treasure from a distance.
- Container Chests can hide treasure's glow and make carrying multiple small items easier.
- Pay attention to the colored glint or glow to identify treasure types from afar.
- Ashen Treasure Chests, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for roughly double the price of regular chests.
Selling treasure to Trading Companies yields Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
