Ahoy there, matey! So you're looking to add a little extra life to your pirate adventures in Sea of Thieves, eh? You've come to the right place. Pets are a fantastic way to have a constant companion on your ship, and they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Let's dive into what you need to know. ## A Little History Believe it or not, these little critters were planned way back in 2018, but Rare decided to hold off to focus on other updates. They were almost part of the Anniversary Update, but then got pushed back again for more testing. Finally, in September 2019, with the Smuggler's Fortune update, they arrived in the Pirate Emporium! Since then, we've seen more types added, like Marmosets, Cockatoos, various Cats (Wildcats, Ragamuffins, and Mauses), and even Dogs (Alsatians, Whippets, and Inus) in the Vaults of the Ancients update. ## Getting Your Own Companion So, how do you get one of these scallywag sidekicks? You'll find them in the Pirate Emporium. They're purchased with Ancient Coins. You can grab Ancient Coins in bundles using real money, or if you're lucky, you might find a rare Ancient Skeleton that drops some when you defeat it on an Island in Adventure Mode. ## How Pets Work These aren't just for show, though they do look mighty fine! Pets are pretty passive creatures, but they can certainly liven up your voyages. They are found in a Pet Chest, and you can buy them from the Pirate Emporium. The cost can vary, sometimes as low as 249 Ancient Coins on sale, up to 649 Ancient Coins. ### Equipping Your Pet Once you've got your pet, you'll want to show them off! You can equip them from your ship's Pet Chest. Just interact with the chest, and you'll see your available pets. Pick the one you want to bring along for the ride. ### Hangout Spots Your pet won't just be stuck on deck. They have their favorite spots around your ship where they like to chill. You'll notice them perching on railings, lounging on chairs, or even peeking out from behind barrels. It adds a nice touch of life to your vessel! ### Feeding Your Friend While they don't have complex needs, you can feed your pet. Different pets enjoy different treats. For example, monkeys might like bananas, parrots might go for crackers, and cats often enjoy fish. Keeping them fed can sometimes trigger unique animations or interactions. ### Other Interactions Besides feeding, you can interact with your pet in other ways. You might be able to pet them, play with them, or even teach them tricks. These little moments can be quite charming and make your pet feel more like a true companion. ### Pet Emotes Just like you, your pet can express themselves! You can use Pet Emotes to have your companion perform specific actions. Want your parrot to dance or your monkey to wave? There's an emote for that! You can usually find these in your Emote Radial Menu. ## Types of Companions Sea of Thieves offers a variety of pets to choose from: * Monkeys: Including Capuchins, Barbarys, and Marmosets. * Parrots: Such as Macaws, Parakeets, and Cockatoos. * Cats: With Wildcat, Ragamuffin, and Mau breeds. * Dogs: Like Alsatians, Whippets, and Inus. * Foxes * Owls * Collector's Pets: Special pets available through certain promotions or editions.
