Discover all types of treasure in Sea of Thieves, from chests to artifacts. Learn how to find, transport, and sell your loot to Trading Companies for Gold and Reputation.
Walkthrough
- 1Treasure is the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.
- 2Each Trading Company has representatives at Outposts who accept specific treasure types for rewards.
- 3Voyages can be obtained from Outpost Representatives to embark on quests for treasure.
- 4Random treasure can be found on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within Fort vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken.
- 5Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, allowing players to identify them from a distance.
- 6Treasure must be carried by hand to a Company Representative for a payout. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while carrying treasure.
- 7The Harpoon can be used to retrieve treasure from afar.
- 8Smaller treasure items can be placed in Container Chests, which hold up to 3 items, to hide their glow and simplify transport.
- 9Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
- 10Picking up relevant treasure while sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional increases for placing items on the ship. These increases are awarded only upon the first claim of a treasure item.
Types of Treasure:
- Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them. The three main companies are the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance.
- Within these companies, treasure can be further categorized into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, and Ghostly variants depending on their source.
- Gold Hoarders Treasure: Items sold to the Gold Hoarders for Gold and Reputation. Emissary Value is increased when sold as a Gold Hoarder Emissary.
- Treasure Chests: Locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. They emit a White Glint. Types include: Regular, Shipwrecked (damaged, found underwater/in shipwrecks), Coral (found in Siren Shrines/Treasuries), Ashen (molten, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double), Valuable (from specific encounters), and Cursed (tied to specific locations/effects, very valuable).
- Artefacts: Smaller items found individually, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint. Types include Regular Artefacts (trinkets, containers, ornaments made of metal/gems).
Tips
- Use the Harpoon to quickly grab treasure from a distance.
- Container Chests are essential for carrying multiple small treasures and hiding their glow.
- Pay attention to the glint/glow color to identify treasure types from afar.
- Prioritize selling treasure relevant to your Emissary flag for increased rewards.
- Be aware that carrying treasure restricts your ability to fight or use equipment.
