Unlock the secrets of Sea of Thieves' Reputation & Progression System. Learn how to earn Gold, Doubloons, and Emissary Value by finding and selling treasure to Trading Companies.

Treasures are transportable items in Sea of Thieves that can be found, carried, and sold to Trading Companies. Selling treasure earns players Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value. Treasure is the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value. Each Trading Company values specific treasure types and has representatives at every Outpost who accept these items for rewards. Voyages, offered by these representatives, guide players on quests to find treasure.

Random treasure can be found across the Sea of Thieves on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within Fort vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken. All treasure items emit a colored glint or glow for easy spotting.

Treasure must be carried by hand to a Company Representative for a payout. A pirate can only carry one treasure item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while doing so; the treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can retrieve treasure from a distance. Smaller items can be placed in Container Chests, which hold up to three items, to hide their glow and simplify transport.

Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer. Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant treasure, with additional gains upon delivering it to the ship. These reputation increases are awarded only for the first claim of a treasure item.

Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them. The three main companies are the Gold Hoarders, the Order of Souls, and the Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures are further classified into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, and Ghostly variants based on their origin.

Gold Hoarders Treasure: Items sold to the Gold Hoarders for Gold and Reputation. Selling as a Gold Hoarder Emissary yields increased rewards and Emissary Value.

Treasure Chests: Unbreakable, locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. They can be found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly. They emit a white glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests. Ashen chests, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double.

Artefacts: Smaller items found individually, within Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a golden glint. Types include Regular Artefacts (trinkets, containers, ornaments made of metal and gems).
