Master the Shovel in Sea of Thieves! Learn how to dig for buried treasure, find valuable loot, and maximize your rewards with our comprehensive guide.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Obtain a Treasure Map: These can be found on islands, in shipwrecks, or as rewards from Voyages.
  2. 2
Locate the Dig Site: The map will show an 'X' marking the spot where treasure is buried. Navigate to the island and find the corresponding location.
  3. 3
Equip the Shovel: Select the Shovel from your inventory.
  4. 4
Dig: Aim the shovel at the ground where the 'X' is marked and hold the dig button (Left Trigger on controller, Left Mouse Button on PC).
  5. 5
Unearth Treasure: Continue digging until a treasure chest or other loot is revealed.
  6. 6
Collect Loot: Pick up the unearthed treasure.
  7. 7
Sell Treasure: Take the treasure to the appropriate Trading Company representative at an Outpost to sell it for Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
Tips
  • Treasure chests emit a distinct glow (white for regular chests, gold for artifacts) that can be seen from a distance, helping you locate them.
  • A single pirate can only carry one treasure item at a time and cannot use equipment or fight while carrying it.
  • Harpoons can be used to retrieve treasure from afar.
  • Smaller treasure items can be placed in Container Chests to hide their glow and make transport easier. Container Chests can hold up to 3 small treasure items.
  • Treasure dropped in water will sink after about 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
  • When sailing as a Trading Company Emissary, picking up relevant treasure increases your Emissary Grade Reputation.
