Uncover the secrets of Treasure in Sea of Thieves! Learn about its mechanics, types, and how it fuels your pirate adventure with Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Treasures are Transportable Items in Sea of Thieves that can be found, carried, and sold to Trading Companies. Selling treasure earns players Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Treasure is the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves. Each Trading Company values specific types of Treasure and has Representatives at every Outpost who accept these items for rewards. Outpost Representatives also offer Voyages, which are Quests leading players to Treasure items. Random Treasure can be found across the Sea of Thieves on Islands, in Barrels of Plenty, Shipwrecks, Vaults, Forts, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken. All Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, allowing players to identify them from afar.

Carrying Treasure requires a pirate to hold it by hand, preventing the use of any Equipment or Resource Items. The Treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can retrieve Treasure from a distance. Smaller Treasure items can be placed in Container Chests, which hold up to three items, to hide their glow and sound, making transportation easier. Treasure left on land remains until interacted with, but Treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer. Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up relevant Treasure, with additional Reputation gained when these items are placed on the ship. These reputation increases are awarded only upon the first claim of a Treasure item.

Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them. The three main companies are the Gold Hoarders, the Order of Souls, and the Merchant Alliance. Within these companies, Treasure Items are further classified into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, and Ghostly variants based on their origin. Gold Hoarder Treasure includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts. Treasure Chests are locked and sold to the Gold Hoarders, who possess the keys. They can be found through Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly across the seas, emitting a White Glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen (found in The Devil's Roar, selling for double), Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests. Artefacts are smaller items found independently, within Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults, emitting a Golden Glint. They include Trinkets, Containers, and Ornaments made of valuable metals and gems.
