Learn how to find, carry, and sell all types of treasure in Sea of Thieves. Discover different treasure chests, artifacts, and their value to Trading Companies.
Walkthrough
- 1Treasures are the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.
- 2Each Trading Company values specific types of Treasure Items and has Representatives at every Outpost who accept these items for rewards.
- 3Representatives also offer Voyages, which are Quests that lead Crews to Treasure items.
- 4Random Treasure can be found across The Sea of Thieves on Islands, in Barrels of Plenty, Shipwrecks, Vaults in Forts, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken.
- 5All Treasure Items emit a colored glint or glow, allowing players to spot them from afar.
- 6Treasure must be carried by hand to its respective Company Representative for a payout. A single Pirate can only hold one Treasure Item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while carrying it.
- 7The Treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Most smaller Treasure Items can be placed inside Container Chests, which can hold up to 3 items, to hide their glow and make transportation easier.
- 8Treasure dropped in water will sink after about 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which stay afloat longer.
- 9While sailing as Trading Company Emissaries, picking up a relevant Treasure item grants Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional Reputation given if the items are placed on the Ship. These increases are only given when a Treasure item is claimed for the first time.
Tips
- Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them.
- Within the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance, Treasure Items are further categorized into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, and Ghostly variants.
- Gold Hoarders accept Treasure Chests and Artefacts.
- Treasure Chests are locked and sold to the Gold Hoarders, who have the keys. They can be found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly across the seas. They emit a White Glint.
- Types of Treasure Chests include: Regular, Shipwrecked (damaged, found underwater/in shipwrecks), Coral (found in Siren Shrines/Treasuries), Ashen (molten, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double), Valuable (specific to encounters), and Cursed (tied to specific locations/effects, very valuable).
- Artefacts are smaller items found on their own, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint.
